Crap I Bought on EbayI’ve bought many things on Ebay from antenna balls to a computer. These following dozen items are a sample of the dozens of dozen of the things I’ve bought on Ebay.
This is a vintage souvenir from the Grand Canyon. I don’t know how old it is – 40s, maybe? I’ve never been to the Grand Canyon, but I thought this was cool and went with the bedroom decor. Some day I’d like to actually go to the Grand Canyon.
I bought these metal gliders again because I thought they were cool. They arrived via Greyhound bus, since they were too big to ship any other way. Now they only need to be stripped, be sanded, have a few things replaced, be primed with some rust-stopping stuff, be repainted, and be reassembled. They have been laying here where they are for a year. They remind me to avoid buying anything that might be a project.
Mr. Bananas goes with the gliders.
This orange stool went with the orange carpet in the living room and orange wallpaper in the kitchen. It doesn’t look like an exciting item, but I did get into a minor bidding war over it. I guess vintage 70s is hot right now.
A few bored moments in UCR’s computer classroom lead to the first purchase of what would be a very large collection of Otagiri Turkey china – turkey-shaped napkin rings, creamer, sugar bowl, napkin holder, teapot, butter dishes, tray, gravy server, salt shakers, pepper shakers, etc. The Otagiri factory closed in the 70s, and Ebay is the only place to find this stuff. Ebay emails me on the rare occasions a new piece is put up for action. I actually used the china for the first time last Thanksgiving.
This roadrunner was supposed to go into my newly relandscaped front yard, but for a variety of reasons the front yard hasn’t been relandscaped, so I stuck him in the planter by the front door with my little cactus garden. All those cactus, except two, died while I was on vacation, but at least, the road runner survived.
I went on an art kick over the summer and had to have this marble statue of Romulus and Remus to represent Roman art. This piece is a favorite.
How could I resist the touch of class that this toilet paper cover provided for the flamingo-themed, front bathroom? It’s nicely embroidered and the spare roll is always at hand.
When I was writing my thesis, I checked this out-of-print book out of CSUSB’s library so often that I carried the call number in my wallet. Eventually, I got sick of driving the 20 miles to the library to check it out and photocopied the book in its entirety. I could have really used Ebay back then.
I bought this Hallmark Christmas tree orniment as décor for the annual weenie roasts Mike and I used to host back when we live in Redlands. Even if there hadn’t been a weenie roast, I think I would have been tempted to buy this. When you switch it on, it plays the song, “I wish I were an Oscar Mayer Wiener." ” I belonged to the Peeps Fan Club. I could not resist this silly necklace for Easter. Peeps just seem happy, and it goes with my Peeps t-shirt and earrings. I want Hawaiian shirts that don’t wrinkle and don’t go to the dry cleaners. I ignor the care tags that say drip dry; those suckers are going in the dryer. This two fine vintage/previously owned Hawaiian shirts are made with good old polyester, so they are cool like rayon and wear like iron. They don’t make them like this any more.
