There are many dogs to encounter in South America. Some countries, some municipalities take care of homeless dogs better
than others. Many do not. It's a strange karmic dilemma. How can we begin to understand how to care for one another, when
we allow these brilliant companions to wander in hostile cities where they are not welcome. It can be heartbreaking to see,
but I always try to honor them with a photo, so they will be remembered. And with lots of food that I carry in my back-pack
especially for such encounters-despite the objections of locals.
Jungle dogs seem to be much happier. Because they have what all dogs are born for: a job, a purpose, a responsibility, and
appreciation from their human companions. Jungle dogs are easy going, vigilante, and have a great sense of humor. Imagine a
dog who has never seen a leash - imagine a human who is that free. I've seen jungle dogs climb 10 foot ladders up and down to
get into Indian long houses, they are amazing.
All these peaceful friends inspired this lyric:
WHY ARE YOU
USING A CAR ALARM HERE?
TAKE HEED
FEED THE DOGS
AND YOU WILL SEE
THE PATH THAT LIES AHEAD
