THE BACKSTORY
Carole Pellatt was born in
Montreal Canada. She started playing guitar when she was twelve, inspired
by players like Bruce Cockburn and Paul Simon. She started gigging
professionally at the age of fifteen playing acoustic guitar in coffee
houses and by the age of eighteen she was playing acoustic and electric
guitar in original rock bands.
“I remember spending my teen years with my ears to my stereo trying to
figure out everything by Bruce Cockburn and Paul Simon. When I was a
little older, a friend introduced me to the electric guitar and players
like Rick Derringer and Johnny Winter. I was always playing
music in bands, solo, or duos. By the time I was in my early twenties
I had done a lot of recording and performing, signed with a music publisher, and went
through a couple of recording contracts- in two different languages!”
It was at this time that Carole started her music
publishing company “Asynchronous Music” which is in
existence to this day.

Carole continues, “ I knew I would always be
a guitar player and I started feeling like I really wanted to know more
about my instrument. So in the mid-eighties I left Montreal and moved
to L.A. to attend Musicians Institute (GIT) in Hollywood."
"It was a dream come true. At that time MI was like boot camp
for musicians. It was 50 years of music in an expansive one year
course. It was there that I met my teacher and friend Keith Wyatt who
introduced me to players like Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Andy Summers,
T-Bone Walker, Steve Lukather, and a truly endless list of
inspiring guitar slingers. Keith is currently Director Of Programs at
Musicians Institute and has been touring with The Blasters for the last
ten years.”
“I also met and started
studying with a man who is still a dear friend and teacher-Joe Diorio.
Joe introduced me to jazz; avant-guard and bebop. He’s a powerful
creative force and was generous to share his techniques for tapping into the
creative spirit.”

While Carole was living in L.A. she worked
as an intern at RCA Records Western Regional Head Office, played with
various bands, did some freelancing on acoustic and electric guitar,
and worked as a technical musical consultant on films, including a
project with guitar great Steve Cropper.
“During that time I was looking for a good
original band. I was playing with a couple of cover bands, but I had
always been in bands that were writing their own material, and I was
really looking for a project that I could sink my guitar playing
into.”

It was at that time that she met singer-songwriter Freddie
Duran. “I loved Freddie’s voice and his songs were great
pop tunes. Freddie also allowed me so much creative input on the guitar
parts and arrangements that I became the first member of his band
“Freddie Duran Plan”. The rest of the band was put together
in New Mexico and they played in L.A. and throughout the Southwest
before moving to Phoenix.
“Once in Phoenix, I continued playing with
Freddie Duran Plan, recording two cd’s “Modern Day
Condition” and “Songs From The Middle Of Nowhere”. I
began my career as a freelance player, playing all styles of guitar on
artists’ cds, commercial jingles, instructional cds, freelancing
live in group, duo, trio, and solo situations. As well I had the
pleasure of creating guitar curriculum for colleges, highschools,
and my private students.I’ve been privileged to have three
different musical projects on the roster with the Arizona Commision On
The Arts.”

Carole’s career has been a diverse
tapestry of guitar styles and playing situations. From rock lead guitar
to fingerstyle solo guitar, she’s traveled all over the
U.S. and many other countries playing with various artists. In Phoenix she’s been
involved in studio
recording, backing up touring acts, broadway shows, corporate events,
concerts and club dates. Carole has taught guitar at two colleges and
at highschool level. She has an extensive private teaching practice.
She continues to play lead guitar with rock band, " Freddie Duran
Plan", featuring singer-songwriter Freddie Duran. Their music is a
blend of original material they call "Adobe Rock" , and they play classic rock
from Steely Dan to Earth Wind and Fire, and as many tunes and styles as
they're challenged to play.

In
the summer of 2007, Carole was asked to be the Director of CAMP JAM
Phoenix. Camp Jam is a national rock and roll summer camp that was
started by Jeff Carlisi of 38 Special and Lynrd Skynrd. It's a week
long musical oddessy that takes young musicians from enrollment and
band placement to a final rock concert performed at the end of the week
with lights, sound, packed house and Dvd recorders rolling.
Camp
Jam offers aspiring young musicians an opportunity to explore self-expression
and gain confidence in a fun learning environment. Not only do
they meet and interact with other young musicians, but they also
are given unique access to music professionals who share their experience
and knowledge to help them understand some of the options open to
them in the music industry.

Carole
is overjoyed to have a few of her own original projects. She loves
playing solo acoustic gigs and has many configurations of duo, trio,
quartet, and quintet groups. One of them is the Carole Pellatt Trio,
featuring Bob Lashier on Bass, Dom Moio on Drums and Carole on a
variety of her guitars-from fingerstyle steel string, to ripping Stevie
Ray and Jimi Hendrix tunes. Dwight Kilian steps in for Bob Lashier on
occasion and gives the group a textural twist with his upright bass.
The
other project close to Carole's heart is Boneyard...The Quartet,
featuring Dom Moio on Drums and Percussion and the highly unusual
roster of two bass players-Bob Lashier and Dwight Kilian. With two bass
players, the arranging possibilities are endless. From the fretless
bass and cello playing of Bob, and the upright bass of Dwight, it's a
highly eclectic blend of styles and arrangement. And of course, she
still plays lead guitar with Valley Singer/Songwriter "Freddie Duran".
