Yes, you heard it right. A quartet with two bass players.
This highly original group features Dwight Kilian on upright and bowed bass, Bob Lashier on fretless bass, cello, and any other instrument he can get his hands on, Dom Moio on drums and a vast array of percussion, and Carole Pellatt on electric, steel string, nylon string, and slide guitar. And there you have it: BONEYARD...the Quartet And how does it come about that you add a second bass player to make a quartet out of a trio? Well, I had been thinking that I would love to increase the textural and arranging possibilities of the trio. I didn't want to add piano to this ensemble because I wanted to keep the midrange open and I loved the challenge of providing a large part of the chord and melodic textures. Both Dwight and Bob have played with the trio and together we all share an adventurous sense of harmony, muse, and texture. |

So,
we're up to our old tricks again, doing arrangements of some of our
favorite songs. I'm loving the way that tunes like "Message In A
Bottle" are coming out. Dwight and Bob play that cool Andy Summers
guitar line harmonized in fifths below me. I've dreamt about that one
for a while. And now we've added three parts to the Bach invention that
Bob placed in the middle of the Beatles tune "Eleanor Rigby". We've added a new surf tune. We had such great response to the Dick Tracy Theme "Boneyard", that we added another surf-era song. You'll have to be at the gig to find out which one... We're still playing Bill Frisell, as well as a lot of our favorite trio tunes by Stevie Ray, the ultra funky King Curtis, Joe Diorio, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Cockburn and Sting. |
I'm having so much fun and it's great to be a part of the interaction between Dom, Dwight and Bob. Look for some new arrangements in the future: "The Twilight Zone" theme song, a passage from the soundtrack of the film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Ashoken Farewell" and some Led Zeppelin. I hope you'll share in my excitement and come out to see this unique band: BONEYARD...The Quartet
