While tracking the endangered gray wolf MacGyver is caught in a trap, injuring his foot. The Lacey sisters, Faith and Hope, find him in the woods and take him to Lacey House, a bed and breakfast inn. Leo Burns drops in just in time to help Faith get MacGyver's foot out of the trap. The two sisters drive to town to get MacGyver's things from his motel room. A few hours later MacGyver awakens in the empty house and sees Leo lying face down on the ground outside. He falls down the stairs, and the women find him when they return from town and tell him that Leo "checked out". Later though he goes to the barn and sees the women down in the cellar digging a grave. In failing health Leo had a heart attack while being questioned and threatened by mobsters. In his will he left the money he skimmed from the mob to Faith and Hope. The men track them down to the cellar and tie them up. MacGyver gets loose, and they all escape through the underground tunnel back to the house. After several rounds of household hazards and tricks MacGyver squelches their plan to get the money back. Faith and Hope decide to use their newfound wealth to help save the gray wolf.
MacGyver: Wait a minute! You can't just bury somebody! There are laws. You have to have a death certificate, a burial permit, all kinds of stuff.
Faith: Oh, pooh.
