EYE OF OSIRIS
Episode 6-14 [118]
4 February 1991
In the snow-covered Taurus mountains of Turkey MacGyver helps Professor Ashford, an archaeologist, and his daughter and assistant Beth search for the tomb of Alexander the Great. Their work is cursed by villains who also seek the ancient relics for profit and power. When a hoist fails and a valuable statue is broken, Hakim takes the opportunity to steal the painted plaque containing clues to the tomb's location. MacGyver makes a plaster form of the plaque. He takes the snow cab into the mountains and sees that a meteorite made a nearby crater several thousand years ago, which is why the rays from the eye of Osiris point opposite from other drawings of the god. The three go to the western rim of the crater and locate the tomb. However, Hakim and Nicolas von Leer come armed to take the prize. MacGyver discovers the hidden eye, a giant sapphire, which solves the riddle that the eye on the plaque is painted blue. Many traps to discourage tomb robbers result in von Leer's death, and the Ashfords and MacGyver only escape with their lives. The doorway into the tomb is blocked again as it was before.
Professor Ashford: I think it's time we got on to other things. Besides, there are some things best left buried.
MacGyver: I read an essay once by an archaeologist who said he wasn't interested in finding artifacts and treasures. He wanted to find the truth.
Professor Ashford: I wrote that.
MacGyver: I know.
