THE WALL
Episode 6-05 [109]
22 October 1990
MacGyver goes to Leipzig seeking to reunite Otto Romburg, an East German expatriate, with his long lost granddaughter Maria, who may be in league with two ex-Stasi agents who are hunting a stash of gold in the old man's possession. At first Maria refuses to come to America, then changes her mind at the last minute and flies back with MacGyver. She is closely watched by the agents from their vantage point across the street from her grandfather's toy shop. When Weise, one of the agents, grows impatient and assaults her grandfather, she deals him a karate blow to the throat sending him down a flight of stairs. Her increasingly suspicious behavior bothers MacGyver, and Pete investigates. Maria had felt for some years that Otto had abandoned the other family members to save himself, but as a an orphan and ward of the state she was taught to give loyalty to her guardians. The agents take them all as prisoners and force Otto to reveal that the gold is hidden in the army of toy soldiers in the shop. MacGyver loosens his bonds and then sends the toys to attack and overcome them. Eventually, Otto and Maria come to an understanding of their past, and their reunion is complete.
MacGyver: Well, you had me going. I believed you...
Maria: MacGyver, no.
MacGyver: But then I think I wanted to believe.
