HUMANITY
Episode 6-02 [106]
24 September 1990
Pete and MacGyver have just arrived in Rumania. An elite corps still loyal to Rumania's dead tyrant, Ceauscescu, sabotages a plan to uncover his secret files. A bomb is placed in the file room of a government building, but MacGyver throws it in the safe before it explodes, saving the files and those in the room. In the aftermath of their assault MacGyver is taken prisoner by Victor, and they go to a wooded area outside the city, where Victor is bitten by a snake. MacGyver could escape, but he stays to help Victor. Cynically, Victor accuses him of helping him for the glory, and MacGyver tells him it was rather an act of humanity. He listens as Victor tells him of his past: he was a ward of the state under the old regime, raised in a strict boys school, and ordered to kill his young friend, Nicolae. The two are taken back to Major Crick's headquarters, and haunted by the memory of Nicolae, Victor wants to save MacGyver's life. He sets up an escape plan whereby MacGyver will go free, and Pete will be taken hostage instead. MacGyver refuses the offer of freedom, and they are all taken into custody. As they are walking out of the woods, a confrontation breaks out between Victor and Major Crick. In the end, Victor uses a grenade to kill him, but he dies also.
Victor: One of us must die. You choose.
MacGyver: No, that's crazy! Why don't you just walk away? What's stopping you from that? Escape.
