Tough Boys
Episode 6-01 [105]
17 September 1990
MacGyver goes to the Challengers' Club, where he meets up with his old friend, police Lieutenant Anthony "Manny" Lopez. A series of explosions put him on the trail of Tough Boys, a group of youth vigilantes who are taking violent measures to blow away the crack ring gripping their urban neighborhood. He suspects R.T. Hubbard, an ex-Marine who leads a physical fitness group at the Challengers' Club, to be the leader. After being caught by the gang and threatened with a fake bomb designed to scare him MacGyver goes to Hubbard's home to confront him. The door is unlocked so he walks in, and Hubbard appears and pulls a gun on him. In the ensuing conversation he convinces MacGyver that he has no part in Tough Boys, and the two realize that Lopez, also a former Marine, is actually "The Man" behind the group. Crack has destroyed his family and caused the death of his daughter, and he sees violence as the only solution to the drug situation. Meanwhile, a drug lord has put out a hit on the group, and in spite of their efforts even Hubbard's son Coco is killed. They rush to the dock where Lopez stands before a group of newsmen and is about to blow himself and the drug lord away with a hand grenade. Hubbard aids MacGyver in averting the suicide of their friend.
Hubbard: Well, are you going to just stand there and watch? Get over here and push with your shoulder.
MacGyver: Why, so we'll both have broken shoulders?
Hubbard: Paint cans? Ah, the sensitive approach.
