Mike Travers, a steel executive whose mill was shut down, seeks vengeance in a plan to kidnap Lisa Woodman, the daughter of corporate shark Eric Woodman, responsible for the closure. Lisa and her friend Ingrid, daughter of the family maid, are at the mall shopping when they are both abducted. Since the girls have switched jackets, Delaney and Molenski, Travers' men, take Ingrid and leave Lisa behind, locked up in a maintenance room at the mall. Travers has seen Lisa, and realizes immediately that they have the wrong girl. He arranges a ransom drop at a park that night with Woodman. When he arrives at the drop, he sees a note that reads "Observatory". They find Ingrid there, but Travers' men have gotten past security at the Woodman home and kidnapped Lisa. She is taken to Breland Steel, the old mill, and in an emotional conversation with her Travers removes her blindfold. Delaney and Molenski are unpleasantly surprised by this, as it means she can ID them, so Travers will have to kill her. Highly upset and rejecting any police involvement Woodman goes to the mill alone with $5 million. MacGyver is already there, following up on clues from Ingrid as to the location. When Woodman arrives, he mediates the confrontation between Woodman and Travers, thus avoiding any bloodshed.
Lisa: I just have a bad feeling this won't work out.
MacGyver: You remember when we escaped from that boathouse in Switzerland? That wasn't supposed to work out either, but it did.
