When a timber summit between loggers and environmentalists is canceled, MacGyver goes to Oregon to find out why. Amy Chandler, an environmentalist, is concerned that a truckerman died in a logging "accident" after giving her a clue to a cover-up involving "Betsy". MacGyver gets hired as a chokerman at the Half Moon and sees that "Betsy" is the name on the back of logger Braddock's truck. When a logging accident nearly kills him and Jack Chandler, both are suspicious. Jack takes up for Amy when Foxworth, the owner, claims she sabotaged his equipment, causing the accident. Foxworth fires him and MacGyver. While packing up their gear, Braddock is just pulling out with a load of logs, and MacGyver hops onto the rig to find out where he goes. A deputy in town tells Jack that Japanese log broker Glass owns an old sawmill, and he and Amy suspect that Foxworth has been smuggling logs to him in violation of his cutting contract with the Forest Service. They go to the sawmill, and Foxworth takes them at gunpoint. Glass plans to kill them both as witnesses to his illegal activity, but MacGyver shows up. He and Glass fight it out on a conveyor belt, and MacGyver jumps to the side as they go over the top, causing Glass to fall to his death. As night falls, authorities gather up evidence at the sawmill, and Jack and Amy agree to reschedule the timber summit.
Amy: You sound just like my husband.
MacGyver: He sounds like a smart guy. I'm sorry I never met him. What happened between you two anyway?
Amy: We've been separated for six months. I guess we couldn't find a win-win situation.
