THE MADONNA

Episode 5-11 [094]

18 December 1989

On Christmas Eve MacGyver and Pete rescue Carol, a mysterious homeless woman, from young vandals. They offer her shelter at the Challengers Club, and MacGyver treats her injured hand. It is the first Christmas without Booker, the Club is in financial difficulty, and the Madonna has disappeared from St. Mary's Church. Pete and MacGyver question a scrawny Santa Claus outside Vincent Bataglia's furniture repair shop. Clues lead them back to Carol, and they search her shopping cart to no avail. After a game of pool with Carol, Breeze has a change of heart and pitches in to decorate the Club for Christmas. MacGyver must help Violet, the lead angel, through a case of butterflies before going onstage for the Christmas program. When Cynthia sings "I'll Be Home For Christmas", MacGyver is overcome with emotion and leaves the building. He still grieves for his mother and was not with her when she died. Later he and Pete go to St. Mary's. As they are talking with Father Lafferty, Bataglia comes in with the Christ child that he began carving years ago. A young boy appears with the Madonna in his wagon. He explains that he promised that if he got a wagon for Christmas, he would give her a ride. On Christmas morning she was outside waiting for him, so he gave her a ride back to St. Mary's.

MacGyver: There you go, about as good as new.
Carol: Splendid. I bet your mother wanted you to be a doctor when you grew up.
MacGyver: Well, not exactly, but she did say I was good with my hands.
