Late one evening a Chinese student arrives at MacGyver's home claiming to be his foster daughter, while secretly bearing numbers for an underground fax network and a tape of the confrontation at Tiananmen Square. Because of a supposed mistake at the university she stays with MacGyver. The following day his house is ransacked by two Chinese men. Pete discovers the girl entered the country on a visitor's visa from Hong Kong. She tells them she is actually Mei Jan, the college roommate of the sponsored girl, who recently died in the student protests in Beijing. She meets her contact, Wing Lee, but fearing for his mother back in China, he turns her over to the Chinese Consulate. The tape is confiscated, and she is locked in the basement. Wing Lee tells MacGyver what has happened, and he goes after her, gaining entry into the building by the fire escape, but is also caught. Mei Jan is very upset that the tape was destroyed, but MacGyver had already made a copy and given it to Pete. They break out of the room and run through the kitchen, where MacGyver tosses a guard's gun into the soup kettle. They reach temporary safety on the roof, while below Wing Lee is speaking to a crowd of students. The two use cable and an antenna bent into a large hook to take a fast ride down to the street.
Mei Jan: There was a mix-up... the room is not ready.
MacGyver: Well, say no more. Here's the kitchen, living room, and the bedroom's upstairs.
Mei Jan: You are nicer than I dreamed.
