Anthony Braddock, who has developed a new explosive that can be molded into a plastic or thread, meets MacGyver in a San Pedro warehouse late one evening to warn him that his invention will be used to assassinate leaders of the Omega Force anti-terrorist brigade at a funeral the following day. The assassin Lancer arrives and kills Braddock and also shoots MacGyver. MacGyver crashes through a window into the ocean and drags himself up onto the trawler Damian, owned by Carol Varnay. She is on her way that night from San Pedro to Bristol Harbor without a working radio. In the morning he regains consciousness, and Carol cares for him. MacGyver has lost his memory. He fixes her nephew Jason's bicycle, and they walk along the pier as memories flash into his mind. Lancer arrives in Bristol Harbor and, realizing that MacGyver is suffering from amnesia, convinces the troubleshooter that he is a government agent. Lancer gives MacGyver a gun and tells him that his assignment is to stop a terrorist named Pete Thornton. After seeing Jason's repaired bicycle and recognizing MacGyver's handiwork, Pete tracks MacGyver to the funeral. He brings back his friend's memory by emphasizing how uncomfortable MacGyver feels holding a gun. Pete and MacGyver find the explosive device and toss it under Lancer's van to prevent him from escaping. MacGyver's Phoenix bonus: a new bicycle for Jason.
Carol: There's something about this place.
MacGyver: Sounds like you're trapped by things you remember. I'm trapped by things I can't.
