MacGyver and Pete are defeated in Bushmaster war games by Kelly, the daughter of Joe Henderson, Bushmaster champ. Kelly's happiness is fleeting because they get word that her father's plane, on a cargo flight to Panama City, has gone down in San Perez. He is imprisoned there as a spy. MacGyver and Kelly, who sneaked aboard the rescue plane, parachute in to find Henderson. They are forced to go into hiding after Kelly is unable to produce a passport when the bus they are on is stopped. At nightfall they go to a nearby church where MacGyver is to meet his local contact. He tells Kelly to wait there and leaves with his contact, Lieutenant Paul Para. Para "arrests" MacGyver, who is put in the cell with Henderson, a cell they share with a rat. Later Para returns and provides MacGyver with the supplies he needs to arrange their escape. After they escape, MacGyver grabs Kelly, whom he finds wandering about in open daylight, anxious and restless about the escape plan. The three of them fix up an old jeep to drive on the rails towards the border. MacGyver utilizes items he finds along the way to discourage the pursuers, and they successfully make it out of the country.
Pete: (Hands him a gun)
MacGyver: Pete, you know how I feel about those things.
Pete: But you're defenseless out here.
MacGyver: No, just weaponless.
