Tony Sullivan, who had saved MacGyver's life while running arms in Afghanistan, contacts MacGyver and asks him to come to the Mesa motel in a deserted area of the Southwest. Syndicate hitmen arrive, and before MacGyver can find out what's happening, Sullivan is killed. Before dying he drops a bag full of counterfeit money into the car of Guy and June Roberts. MacGyver is heading out of town when his jeep breaks down. Guy, a veteran actor, stops and gives him a ride. Since Guy paid for his stay at the motel with one of the bogus bills, Michael Talbot, the man from whom Sullivan stole the money, discovers that the Roberts have his money. Talbot and his men soon catch up with the Roberts, and it is MacGver's ingenuity that stops the pursuers' car. Talbot must stop to repair his car as do the Roberts since their car was also damaged. MacGyver comes across the money in the car and realizes that it is counterfeit. The Cadillac gives out completely, so they take refuge in a deserted town. Talbot and his men arrive, and MacGyver and Guy capture the criminals. As MacGyver's Phoenix bonus for apprehending Talbot, the Roberts' '59 Cadillac is restored to mint condition.
MacGyver: A good relationship is a lot like a car. You have to put a lot of work into it, and have the right tools. Flowers are pretty good tools for that kind of work.
