In the midst of a fierce hockey match with Susan, MacGyver receives a frantic call from an old flame, Amy Austin, but before he can get any details from her, the line goes dead. He catches the first plane out. The next morning at the beach where he is to meet Amy, he remembers their relationship and breakup several years ago. Just as he sees Amy drive up, her car explodes. By the time the police arrive, he has found evidence of foul play. After attending Amy's funeral MacGyver finds her huddled in the backseat of his car. Having sent her roommate Bonnie to meet him at the beach, she has feared for her life ever since she uncovered information on a uranium theft at the nuclear plant where she works. The two head for the plant and discover that MacGyver's college friend, Tim Wexler, a discontented power plant employee, and Ed Train, a police officer, are behind the theft of the valuable uranium, enough to build a nuclear bomb. MacGyver confronts the criminals but, as Tim and Ed struggle with the gun, a stray gun shot hits Tim and sets off a nuclear reaction. The system goes into meltdown procedure, and MacGyver and Amy rush to avert the meltdown.
MacGyver: The past is a strange country. When you go back, it doesn't recognize you. I'd changed in ways I didn't know.
