Capital City Mac User Group Programs 2004-2009:

Program: Page layout with iWork Pages
Carol Combs showed us some great tricks with page layout mode in Pages.
Although attendance was down because the Candlelight tour, we had a very interactive, hands on demonstration.

Program: Introduction to Automator; Screencasting with Quicktime & Screenflow
Steve Riggs showed us some amazing possibilities and benefits of using Automator.
After a brief Q&A session, he demonstrated techniques for screencasting with Quicktime & ScreenFlow:
Capture the contents of your entire desktop at the same time as you capture your video camera, microphone and computer's audio. Sophisticated editing tools allow you to create incredible screencasts in no time. The finished result is a QuickTime or Windows Media movie, ready for publishing to your website or blog.
By the way, MUG members can get a 10 percent discount on ScreenFlow until 10/15/09. For details, check with Steve.

Program: Q & A
Twelve people attended the meeting last evening, and for the most part the Q & A session was a success. I think most of the questions were answered.
Door Prizes: 3 lapdesks, various laptop accessories and a Take Control eBook was given away.

Program: iPhoto 09
Eleven persons attended the meeting last evening. Adorable seven month old Ian Patrick made twelve.
Sara Constantine and Steven Riggs shared the program.
Sara did an excellent iPhoto 09 review, and Steven discussed all the big happenings at Apple since the last meeting, i.e., iPhone 3.0, 3GS, "Voila" review, the pending release of Snow Leopard, etc. Both programs were very informative and enjoyed by all.
The raffle winners were:

Thirteen persons attended the meeting.

Marti gave an iWork presentation on Numbers and Pages(Word Processing)
and Carol presented Keynote.

New Business: Our new president Marti Booth, presided over a vote for a new domain name.
The name ccmugky.org, suggested by Steven Riggs, was accepted.

Program: Marti Booth presented "Twitter" and Sara Constantine followed Marti with a presentation of "Facebook". Mark McChesney spoke about Facebook and Twitter security. Fourteen members attended the meeting.
- February 5th, 2009 - Twelve persons attended the meeting last eve. Three were visitors. A nominating committee was formed to present a new slate of officers at the next meeting.
Program: The group created a web site from scratch using iWeb, followed by a Q&A session. Fran Salyers and Jesse Lee showed and explained their web sites to the group. Carol C. did a brief review of the new iPhoto 09...basically showing "faces" and "places".
- January 8th, 2009 - Thirteen people, including two visitors braved the cold for the meeting. Steven Riggs presented iWeb and demonstrated how he used iWeb to create his own web site.
- December 4th, 2008 - More on iChat and Q&A with Steven Riggs. Steven entered the iChat theatre and showed us some movies he had made. Carol Combs spoke briefly about podcasts and shared a few with the group. She also did a brief demo of "Notebook" by Circus Ponies.
Ten members were present and we had two virtual members. Sara Constantine and her husband Michael Cronk. They were able to show off their new baby to the club via iChat.
- November 6th, 2008 - Steven Riggs, presented iChat. Kim Gersony was our virtual member and participated from her home in Lexington. Fourteen people attended the meeting.
- October 9th, 2008 - Q&A and a brief overview of Steven Riggs' program "Timetable".
Ten persons were in attendance.
- September 4th, 2008 - Security Issues: Understanding the importance of protecting our computers using the proper settings, WPA-2, firewalls, etc., by Mark McChesney. Thirteen persons attended the meeting.
- August 7th, 2008 - Q&A's, Tips and Tricks and favorite web sites. Several members participated.
- July 10th, 2008 (rescheduled) - Floyd Seals, an equine photographer, presented "Equine Photography and the Mac". Fran and Dave Salyers just returned from Russia and showed us their pictures during "happy hour."
- June 13th, 2008 (rescheduled) - Eight members enjoyed a Q&A session and Ruby Layson treated us to a slideshow of her recent trip to Jordan, Israel and Egypt. The new iPhone comes out July 11th.
- May 1st, 2008 - Steven Riggs gave a presentation on "Backups and Archives". As always, we will had a Q&A session at the end of the meeting to get all your Mac related questions answered.
- April 3rd, 2008 - Steven is a part time independent Macintosh software developer. He is based in Frankfort, KY where he works as an Analyst/Programmer for the state of Kentucky. He gave a presentation on his application TimeTable™, the new iCal companion for Leopard. “You already plan your life with iCal. Why not use your calendar for more than just scheduling? TimeTable is the easy way to list the amount of hours that you have scheduled in iCal.” (stevenriggs.com)
- March 6th, 2008 - Byron gave a presentation on Bento and Mark McChesney told us about the Consumer Electronic show he visited in January.
- Feb 7th, 2008 - The program was "Tips and Troubleshooting". Everyone was asked to share any tips they might have for using any program on the Mac, and gave fellow Mackers help as questions arose.

- Dec 6th, 2007 - Mark McChesney's presents "Security on the Internet and on your Mac." presentation. Mark is a security expert and had lots of valuable information to share with the club.
- Nov 1st, 2007 - The program included review of Leopard by Jesse Lee and Carol plans to created a DVD with iPhoto and iDVD from start to finish.
- Oct 11th, 2007 - Martha Songer our program chairman and her husband Byron presented "How to operate Microsoft Free." It also included a demonstration of Google Apps.
- Sept 6th, 2007 - John Southern, Apple consultant will present the new iMac
and will demonstrate the new version of iLife in the classroom at CompUSA in Lexington from 6-8PM.
- August 2nd, 2007 - A very interesting and a potentially productive Q&A meeting. If what they learned (setting up a new account and mail settings) works when they get home, then it was productive. Bill Morris led the way in this presentation. Thanks Bill. Eight members were in attendance.
- July 12th, 2007 - Brian Gupton and the group of people who work with him gave a very inspiring account of the link between the James Brown Cancer center, Apple computer, Education and the Coal Severance Tax. What they are accomplishing is truly amazing. Thanks Brian and Co. for speaking to our group.

- June 7th, 2007 - Marty Park, who is the Chief Information Officer at Clark County Schools and an Apple Distinguished Educator, met with about 15 members of CCMUG Thursday night. First we got a look at his latest MacBook, which was very impressive. He shared some of the interesting projects that he is personally involved in as well as projects that are going on in his schools. Students are producing videos, newscasts, podcasts using Mac software that cuts the time involved and increases the quality of the product.You may want to take a look at his website at http://teach.clarkschools.net/mpark/. He was also gracious enough to stick around for a question and answer session. We are hoping he was able to convince a couple of our guests that they need to jump on the Mac bandwagon.
- May 3rd, 2007 - "Bring your tips and challenges" meeting. Several people shared ideas and recommendations. Attached is an edited version of the "tip sheet" Fran shared at the meeting. At the end are notes on tips shared by others.
- April 5th, 2007 - Appropriate for spring, our program dealt with cleaning out and organizing!
• How to find places to stash all those big old files you're going to need at some time in the future.
• Where to put the old pictures and music.
• Where you can put your old mail in an easily accessible format and place so you can get to it when you're hauled into court with some attorney asking questions.
- January 4th, 2007 - Collection of dues, decision to combine Feb and March meetings into one meeting on Feb 22 when a guest speaker is going to join us. The program consisted of an informal conversation with miscellaneous questions and answers.
- Dec 7th, 2006 - "Tips and Tricks on Digital Imaging" presented by Sara Constantine.
- Nov 2nd, 2006 - A more informal meeting with Q &A's. Lydia Wells Sledge recommendes a site for Mac Tips and Tricks.
- Oct 5th, 2006 - A continuation of our series of programs on databases, with an example of how to use a database for genealogy. Byron Songer has generously donated a runtime version (in other words, you don't have to buy the program - he's set it all up for you!) of a genealogy program based on FileMaker Pro. In fact, you can find it on our MUG website right now. Also, general problem solving and Qs and As.
- Sept 7th, 2006 - A brief business meeting including information from Fran Salyers, our Apple Ambassador, on how you can access some real bargains through our status as an official Apple MUG. A silent auction was held of many interesting items.Brian Gupton, who is with the Kentucky Dataseam Initiative, will gave an overview of how Macintoshes are used by Kentucky students in K-12 schools by day and by university medical researchers by night. Jeanne Biddle, the technology coordinator for Scott County Schools, told us about what she and others in this outstanding group of educators learned and created this summer traveling to Prague and Berlin as an Apple Distinguished Educator.
- August 3rd, 2006 - "An Introduction to Databases" presented by Martha Songer and Byron.
- July 6th, 2006 - Election of Officers and a few short programs including: "How to use Google Earth" by Byron Songer, "Using Google image search" by Lydia Wells Sledge, and Fran and David Salyer showed photos from their recent trip to Alaska.
- June 1st, 2006 - "Investing and researching online" presented by Byron and Martha Songer.
- May 4th, 2006 – A short program in honor of Byron Songer, who has retired from Apple and started a new venture, informal Q&A session, and how to create a photo poster.
Byron Songer is moving from his position as a systems engineer with Apple to form his own company - Songer Consulting. The MUG recognized him for his contributions to the group through presenting programs, donating items for use and for sale, providing technical support to MUG members, and being a friend of this MUG. We were pleased that his family attended this meeting.

- November 3rd 2005 – "What's so great about iTune and iPods?" by Sara Constantine, Carol Combs, Lydia Wells Sledge and other contributors. Multitudes of tips and tricks and useful thing you can do with iTunes and iPods.
- October 6th 2005 – Sara and Vicki gave an update on our web site. Ruby, Carol and Lydia will report on visits to MacTown in Louisville and The Apple Store in CIncinnati.
- September 2005 – Mac Short Cuts: Mike Claffy and other members share amazing ways to accomplish goals even faster on your Mac.
