Elsie Marie Anderson

   Funeral Service for Elsie Marie Anderson, 82, of Canby, formerly of Taunton, will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota.
   Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. ­ 8:00 p.m. at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will follow the service at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Minneota.
   Elsie Marie Meyer was born on November 15, 1922, in rural Canby to Lubbo and Mary (Fricka) Meyer. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith in Canby. Elsie worked for a time at Coil's Jewelry Store in Canby. On January 17, 1945, she was united in marriage to Kermit Anderson at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church Parsonage in Canby. After the marriage, the couple made their home in Eidsvold Township where they were engaged in farming.
   Elsie enjoyed helping on the farm, flowers and outdoor gardening, activities at Senior Haven in Canby and spending time with family. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota and the Hope Lutheran Women's Organization.
   Elsie died on Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at Sioux Valley Canby Campus in Canby.
   She is survived by her children Darrel and wife Anita of Taunton, Beverly Bies and husband Eugene of Canby, grandchildren Susan and Mike Fairchild of Watertown, SD, Allison and Corey Nelson of Canby, Manda and Jake Olsen of Marshall, Laurie and Gregory Castor of Plymouth, Scott and Bree Anderson of Taunton and five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kermit, brother Neil Meyer and sisters Alice Bertemes and Leona Benson.

Kenneth LeRoy Anderson
   
Funeral services for Kenneth LeRoy Anderson, 79, were held on Monday, April 10, 2006 at St. John's Lutheran Church of Madison. Rev. Terrill Bramstedt officiated; organist was Eunice Mork and soloist was Julie Hill. Concluding services were held at Providence Valley Lutheran Cemetery of rural Dawson. Mr. Anderson passed away on April 6, 2006 at the Madison Hospital, Madison.
   Kenneth LeRoy Anderson was born September 2, 1926 in Dawson to Hjalmer and Edith (Carlson) Anderson. He was baptized at the Dawson Mission Church and confirmed at Providence Valley Lutheran Church. He attended rural school and graduated from Dawson High School in 1944.
   Anderson joined the United States Army on January 15, 1945 and was honorably discharged on October 10, 1946. during his time in the service he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and Good Conduct medal, and qualified as a sharp shooter.
   Following his discharge he returned to the family farm and farmed until 1963; he also owned and operated "Kenny's Store" until 1960. Anderson worked at the Dawson bean plant until his retirement in 1991. During his retirement he sold for American Family Insurance Company.
   Anderson was united in marriage to Ramona Richardson at Providence Church in April of 1947.
   On December 21, 1984 Anderson was united in marriage to Leona Grube Longhenry in Milbank, SD. the couple lived in Madison for several years.
   Anderson enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing, taking care of flowers, and visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife; children, Barry (Teresita) Anderson of Silverdale, WA, Beth (Brett) Garrigan of Eagle, Idaho, Bruce (Kimberly) Anderson of Frazee, and Bobbi Jo (Mostafa) Azzouzi of Falcon Heights; six grandchildren; three brothers, Richard, of Chaska, Milton of Anoka, and Palmer of Watertown, SD; four sisters, JoAnn Olson of Chaska, Delaine Tisdale of Georgia, DeVonne Listrud of Rockford, Ill, and Tootsie Plinski of Chaska.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Alvis, Jimmy, Roger and Donald and one daughter, Becky.

Glenn Anderson
   Glenn Edward Anderson, formerly of Canby and Spring Grove, passed away Nov. 13 at Good Shepherd Villa Care Center in Mesa, Ariz.
   Anderson was the youngest of five children born to Nels and Emma Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at the First English Church in Canby. He attended Canby Public Schools. His asthma prevented him from entering the armed services, so he spent some time working in the naval shipyard in Seattle, Wash. He returned to Canby in 1951 and entered the family-owned Canby Dairy Plant and the Canby Dairy Store. The three brothers soon decided that three brothers with different ideas was too many, so Glenn took over the Dairy Store.
   In 1953, he married Anita Sundby at Greenfield Church in Harmony. They made their home in Canby until 1978 when they moved to Spring Grove. In 1984, after three years of winter life in Arizona, they moved to permanent residences in Apache Junction and Mesa.
Anderson was an avid walker, enjoyed reading, going to auctions and flea markets. He was a gun collector and an antique collector, enjoyed playing pool and cards.
   Anderson is survived by his wife, Anita, nieces Sharon, Andrea, Diane and Nancy and nephews Roger and Alan.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Laverna and Leona, and two brothers, Vernon and Wayne, a nephew, Dennis, and in-laws August and Alma Sundby.
   Burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery in Harmony. A memorial service was held in the chapel at the Good Shepherd Villa.

Agnes Hoffman-Anseeuw

   Mass of Christian Burial for Agnes Hoffman-Anseeuw, 97, of Minneota, will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 3, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota.
   Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Minneota. Visitation will continue from 8:30 a.m. ­ 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery in Ghent.
   Agnes was born on August 17, 1907, in St. Leo, to Frank and Anna (Kockelman) Jelen. She attended school in St. Leo and one year in Mankato. Agnes worked as a housekeeper for a few years in St. Paul before returning to St. Leo. On Feb. 20, 1928, she was united in marriage to Bernard Hoffman in St. Leo. The couple farmed in St. Leo until they moved to Ghent in 1959. Agnes worked various jobs including at Don's Ballroom in Ghent. Bernard died in 1969.
   In July of 1974, Agnes was married to Jules Anseeuw. The couple moved to Pipestone. After Jules' death, Agnes returned to Minneota in 1989. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, baking, cooking and in her early years farming with her husband and she greatly enjoyed visiting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Agnes was a member of Catholic Aid Assoc. in St. Leo, Catholic Daughters in Pipestone, the Pipestone Hospital Auxillary, the Ghent American Legion Auxillary.
   Agnes died on Monday, May 30, 2005, at the Sioux Valley Canby Campus in Canby.
   She is survived by her daughters Bernadette Van Hee of Marshall and Barbara (Clarence) Buysse of Minneota, 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, siblings Philomine Zumwalde of St. Paul, Eleanor Mensing of Minneapolis, Alphonse (Dorothy) Jelen of Jordan, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Bernard and Jules, daughter Donna Marie, sons in-law Donald Engels and Archie Van Hee, three sisters and two brothers.

Gladys Ione Anderson
   Gladys Ione Larson, age 79 of Renville passed away Wednes-day, May 4, 2005, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
   A Memorial service was held Monday, May 9, at the Wrenwood Home in Renville. Interment was in the Renville Cemetery following the service.

Jean Anshus

   Jean A. Anshus, 80, of Canby, passed away Feb. 28, 2006, in the Hendricks Hospital in Hendricks.
   Funeral services will be Saturday, March 4, at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Canby with Lay Pastor Karen Houtman officiating.    Visitation will be on Friday, March 3, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Birk Funeral Home in Canby. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
   Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery.
   Jean was born to Anton and Enis (Arnsdorf) Hemish in the Swenson Memorial Hospital in Canby on Nov. 10, 1925. She attended rural school through the eighth grade at District 32 in Norman Township, Yellow Medicine County and then attended Canby High School, graduating in 1943. She completed Normal Training School in Canby, earning her teachers certificate in 1944. She taught rural school for several years in both Fortier Township and Marble Township, southwest of Canby. She also worked for a time as a dental assistant in Watertown, S.D.
   On June 20, 1953, Jean married Lyman Anshus of Becker in Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Canby. After their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm near Becker. In 1954, they moved to a farm southwest of Canby, where they lived until the present time. Jean and Lyman raised two children on their farm. The operation focused mainly on dairy farming. She helped with management of the farm (Anshus Farms and Rentals) and took responsibility for much of the bookwork associated with the business.
   Jean always took great pride in her husband, Lyman; children and grandchildren as well as her Czech heritage. She was overjoyed when their daughter, representing Canby and Yellow Medicine County, won the state Dairy Princess competition in 1973. Jean was also proud of her son, Craig, and his Family Chiropractic Practice in Cottage Grove.
   Jean was president of the CAREA-Canby Area Retired Teachers Association and she enjoyed meeting with her colleagues in the Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid Vikings fan and greatly enjoyed dancing and playing bridge weekly.
   Survivors include her husband, Lyman of Canby; one daughter, Lori (Michael) Radmer of Minneapolis; one son, Dr. Craig (Monique) Anshus of Woodbury; one granddaughter, Jackie Bestrom of Phoenix, Ariz.; one grandson, Michael Radmer, Jr. of Minneapolis; one brother, LeRoy (Roberta) Hemish of rural Watertown, S.D; one nephew, Jesse Hemish, of rural Watertown, S.D; one brother-in-law, Dean Anshus of Becker; and two sisters-in-law, Lillian Chambers, and Georgia Anshus both living in Calif.
   She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marshall D. Armitage
   Marshall D. Armitage, 83, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Roy Armitage, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 at a hospital in Salinas, CA.
   Armitage was born in Canby, but had lived in California since the early 1950's. He served with the Marine Corps in World War II. He retired from Douglas Aircraft in 1982. Armitage was married to Selvia Ludeen of Dawson.
   He is survived by his wife; one son Steven; grandchildren; one brother, Clayton of Canby and one sister, Mildred of California.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dale and one sister, Dorothy.

Walter Baer

   Walter Edward Baer, 87, of Canby, MN passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at Sioux Valley Canby Campus Hospital in Canby.
   Funeral Services will be held Monday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. at Nicolai Lutheran Church in Canby with Rev. Scott Muehlberg officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Birk Funeral Home in Canby. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
   Burial will be at Canby City Cemetery.
   Walter Edward Baer was born Oct. 2, 1917, to Otto and Emma (Loeck) Baer in Balaton. He was baptized in Balaton and confirmed at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gary, S.D. Walter proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII from Jan. 19, 1942 until Oct. 16, 1945.
   On June 8, 1947, he was united in marriage to Edna (Zachow) Baer in Gaylord. Following their marriage, they moved to Canby.
Walter worked bridge construction for Wendtland Bridge Construction out of Balaton and retired from there in 1986. He was a member of Nicolai Lutheran Church in Canby and was a member of Gary Legion for 30 years and was a lifetime member of the Canby VFW. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends at the Canby Coop. He also enjoyed reading westerns, restoring antiques, and some wood working.
   Walter is survived by his wife, Edna of Canby; two sons, Michael (Joyce) Baer of Canby; Jerry Baer of Canby; three daughters, Sharon Baer of Minnetonka, Kathy (Doug) VanSanten of Brandon, S.D., Bonnie (Paul) Olson of Porter,; three grandchildren; Brittany VanSanten, Justin VanSanten, Heather Olson; four step-grandchildren, Aaron (Chrissi) Olson, Ryan (Tawny) Olson, Wayne Olson, Tanya Larson; five step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold (Eldeen) Baer of Canby Erwin (Fae) Baer of Canby; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Baer of Gary, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Leona; and his brother, Rudolph.

Ralph William Beck

   Ralph William Beck, 85, of Canby, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 in the REM Assisted Living Center in Canby.
   Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Canby with Father Tony Hesse officiating.
   Burial will be in the St. Leo Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 6-8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. and a Rosary to follow at Birk Funeral Home in Canby.
   Ralph William Beck was born on July 17, 1920, to Jacob and Theresa (Mamer) Beck in St. Leo. He was baptized made his first communion and confirmed at the St. Leo Catholic Church and attended the St. Leo Catholic School. Following his education, Ralph farmed near Graceville. On July, 27, 1942 he was drafted in the US Army where he was stationed in Europe. After WWII, he was honorably discharged on Jan. 10, 1946, and returned home.
   On June 3, 1947, Ralph married Lorraine Anthony. They lived on a farm by Porter where they raised their children. In 1969, they moved to Canby and Ralph drove a milk truck for many years and became disabled and then retired
   He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Canby. He loved playing with his grandchildren, helping them out and teaching them. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and checkers, watching boxing and line dancing, and working or tinkering on anything, car racing and going for drives.
   He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; three sons, Robert (Donna) Beck of Bagley, and their children, Robin and her husband Kevin, and Jamie; Kenneth Beck of Montevideo, and his children, Jon, Amy, Aisha and Nick; Dennis (Dawn) Beck of Litchfield, and their children Adam and Tim; one daughter, Linore Harp and special friend, Daniel Gottskalkson of Porter, and children Dan Harp and Jennifer Gottskalkson, two sisters: Marie Doll of Dumont, Verna Bjerke of Mahnomen; two brothers: Jim (Lela) and Bill (Sharon) Beck of Spokane, Wash.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, a son-in-law, David Harp and two brothers-in-law.

Lee Benz

   Funeral services for Lee Benz, 52, of Canby, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby, with Rev. Katherine Rood officiating.  
   Burial will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery.
   There will be special music by Bruce Melby, singing "On Eagles' Wings" and "In The Garden". Karen Olsen will be the organist, with the congregation singing "Amazing Grace" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus".  The casketbearers will be Ken Vlaminck, Gary Vlaminck, Dan Hawkinson, Bruce Jeppesen, Chuck Nygaard, and Kevin Skorczewski.  Honorary casketbearers will be all of Lee?s special friends and hunting friends.
   Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to services.
   Lee died on Saturday, June 4, as a result of an automobile accident west of Canby. The Birk Funeral Home in Canby is handling the arrangements.
   Lee Kenneth Benz was born on March 11, 1953, in Canby to parents Kenneth and Nina (Ouverson) Benz. He attended Canby Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1971. He went on to attend the Canby Area Vocational-Technical Institute.  Lee lived and farmed in Yellow Medicine County near Canby, and was currently employed at Gilbertson?s Salvage.
   Lee loved the outdoors, and he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and he loved to shoot trap.  He was a member of the Canby Trap Association, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, the National Rifle Association, and the Canby Sportsman?s Club.
   He is survived by his parents: Kenneth and Nina Benz of rural Canby; six sisters: Jeanie Ochsendorf (and Daniel) of Watertown, SD,  Avis Jeppesen (and Bruce) of Aurora, S.D.,  Linda Vlaminck (and Ken) of Brookings, S.D., Linette Benz (and Kevin) of Shakopee, Marie Vlaminck (and Gary) of Marshall,  and Julie Nygaard (and Chuck) of Hendricks; and by 14 nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his sister, Cindy Hovitek; two brothers-in-law: Loren Ochsendorf and Ron Hovitek;  and by his grandparents.

LeRoy Bergh

   Funeral services for LeRoy Bergh, 86, of Hendricks, will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 23, at Faith Lutheran Brethren Church in Hendricks, with Pastor Allen Molascon officiating. Burial will be in the Hendricks City Cemetery.
   Sheila Engelstad will be the organist, with the congregation singing "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Great Is Thy Faithfulness", and "How Great Thou Art". There will also be special music sung by Lori Olson. The pallbearers will be nephews:  Valgean Johnson, DeLon Johnson, Rodney Johnson, Lyndon Johnson, Michael Bergh, and Loren Hoseck.
   Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Hendricks Hospital Chapel, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
   Mr. Bergh died on Tuesday, May 17, at his residence in Hendricks. The Birk Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
   John LeRoy Bergh was born on May 18, 1918, on a farm near Fish Lake in Deuel County, South Dakota, to parents John and Emma (Gustafson) Bergh. His mother died when LeRoy was very young, and he was raised by his father and step-mother, Agda. In his youth he attended country school and worked on the family farm.
   LeRoy operated the home farm for many years, and following his retirement he continued to work for area farmers.  On Aug. 19, 1964, he was married to DeEtta Barnes in DeSmet, S.D., and the couple lived on a farm northeast of Hendricks until 1980, when they moved to Watertown, S.D..
   DeEtta passed away in 1992, and LeRoy continued to live in Watertown until moving to Lincoln Lane Villa in Hendricks in 1998.  In addition to farming, some of LeRoy?s enjoyments in life included woodworking and carpetnry, gardening, fishing, and visiting with his family and friends.  His faith was especially important to LeRoy, and he spent many hours reading his Bible and in support of Christian ministries.
   LeRoy is survived by his sister, Freda Burns of Hendricks, and by many nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters:  Anna Johnson and Vera Hoseck; and a brother, Gaylord Bergh.

Luella Beatrice Bing
 
   
Luella Beatrice (Anderson) Bing, 100, of Canby passed away Thursday, July 28, 2005, at the Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby.     Funeral Services will be held Monday, Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with Rev. Katherine Rood officiating. 
Visitation will be Sunday, July 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at the Birk Funeral Home in Canby. 
   Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be at the St. Stephen's Cemetery in Canby. 
Luella Beatrice (Anderson) Bing was born on July 15, 1905, in Kanawha, Iowa, to Thomas and Anna Anderson. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Belmound, Iowa.  The family moved to Minnesota in 1907 and later to a farm near Gary, S.D. Luella graduated from the Gary High School in 1924. Luella then attended Teachers Training in Canby and taught school for several years. 
   On July 2, 1927, Luella married Chester Mount and they resided in Canby.  Their daughter, Dorothy, was born on July 16, 1928. Chester died in October 1933. On Dec. 3, 1935, Luella was united in marriage to Edward Bing. The family settled on the "Bing" homestead near Canby. In the fall of 1955, Edward and Luella moved into town. Upon updating her teaching certificate, Luella taught school for 11 years. After retiring, Luella enjoyed spending her time at home with family and friends.
   Luella was a member of the Burr Ladies Aide, Our Saviour's ALCW and Circle. She also helped organize the first Extension Club and 4-H Club in Hammer Township.
   Luella is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Herbert) Thompson, grandson, Craig (Leona) Thompson and granddaughter, Rebecca (Robert) Haugen, four great grandsons: Joshua, Shawn, and Terry Thompson, and Daniel Haugen, three great-great grandsons Colton and Dakota Haugen and Jorgen Thompson.

Lorraine Bohms

   Lorraine Vivian (Sillman) Bohms, 80, of Canby passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005 at the Senior Haven Nursing Home.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 31 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby with the Rev. Katherine Rood officiating.
Burial was at St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery.
   Lorraine Vivian (Sillman) Bohms was born on a farm in Oshkosh Township near Canby on Sept. 14, 1924, to Leo and Palma Sillman. She spent all of her childhood days there until she married James Bohms on Sept. 20, 1942, on the farm. To this union 10 children were born.
   During their years together they lived in Canby, as well as Aberdeen, S.D., and Prophetstown, Ill. Lorraine worked in a shoe factory in Illinois, ran a bowling alley in Dixion, Ill., worked in the restaurant business most of her adult life, and ran the KOA Campground for many years before her retirement. During Jim's illness they moved to Denver to be near their children who lived in the area. Jim passed away on Aug. 26, 2000. Following his death, Lorraine moved back to Canby. She entered Senior Haven Nursing Home in September of 2002. She passed away there after the age of 80 years, 11 months and 14 days.
   She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Canby. Her interests in life were baking, playing cards, her many cats and dogs, growing flowers and taking them to the county fairs were she won many ribbons, and bowling on a league for many years. She was the president of Navy Mothers Club in Aberdeen and a member of the Women of the Moose. She was an Avid Twins, Vikings and NASCAR fan.
   She is survived by her children: David (Donna) Bohms of Erie, Ill., Janet Ramsey of Denver, Janice (John) Mullins of Denver, Larry (Norma) Bohms of Watertown, S.D., Nancy (JC) Ray of Fenton, Ill., Robert (Ronda) Bohms of Prophetstown, Ill., Paulette (Douglas) Schlager of Akron, N.Y., Leonard (Emily) Bohms of Princeton, Ill., Loren (Zoe) Bohms of Canby, and Tom Bohms of Greenley, Colo.; 29 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four brothers: Odell (Jeri) Sillman, Paul (Gerry) Sillman, Lyle (Jenni) Sillman, and Ronnie (Jackie) Sillman; four sisters: Ardis (Ervin) Olson, Arlene (Ronald) Schoephoerster, Phyllis (Lester) Furguson, and Sylvina (Robert) Butterdal.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents, step-father, sister, and brother.

Atha Borchard

   Atha I. Borchard, age 102, of Canby, passed away May 7, 2006, at the Senior Haven Care Center in Canby.
   Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at 1:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Canby. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-8 pm at the Birk Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Lay Pastor Karen Houtman of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
   Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery.
   Atha was born Nov. 30, 1903, in Worthington, the daughter of Earl and Edith (Mathews) Stauffer. Atha moved to Vinton, Iowa, in 1908 and then to Jefferson, Iowa, in 1912. In 1920, she arrived in Canby and graduated from Canby High School in 1922 and completed her Teacher's Training in 1924. Atha married Alfred Borchard in 1926 at the First Presbyterian Church in Canby. They lived on the farm in Oshkosh Township until 1943. She worked for several years at the Mikkleson's Gamble Store and Canby Color Center until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies were: sewing, gardening, reading, baking and an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
   She is survived by her daughter, Neva Hacker of Canby; two sons, Wayne and Roger Borchard both of Waldport, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; six great grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; son, Glen; one granddaughter; one great grandson; two sisters, Beulah Turner and Alma Borchard and one brother, Ralph Stauffer.

Robert P. Boulton

   Mass of Christian Burial for Robert P. Boulton, 88, of Minneota, will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2005, at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Minneota. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. ­ 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at St. Edward's Catholic Church on Thursday and will continue from 9 a.m. ­ 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Minneota. Interment follows the service at St. Edward's Catholic Cemetery in Minneota.
   Robert P. Boulton was born on Aug. 2, 1916, in Alta Vista Township to Joseph and Elizabeth (Moorse) Boulton. He attended grade school at Alta Vista District 6 and Porter Public School. Robert continued his education at the West Central School of Agriculture at the U of M Morris and the School of Agriculture at U of M St. Paul. On June 9, 1941, Robert was united in marriage to Helen Sorensen at St. Edward's Catholic Church. The couple farmed at Porter for 38 years. They raised purebred Chester Whites, purebred short horn cattle, Hampshire sheep, and certified MPS seeds. Robert enjoyed playing violin in his college years. He also enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, golfing, traveling, dancing to old time music and spending time with his family. The couple wintered in McAllen, TX, for 15 years and spent time at their lake home in Alexandria. Robert was an active member of the community. He belonged to the Porter Town and Country Club and he served on many boards including the Alta Vista Township Board, the Porter Coop Oil Board, Lyon-Lincoln Electric Cooperative, First Bank Southwest of Minneota, Canby Vo-Tec Board and St. Edward's Church Board as Trustee.
   He died on Monday, May 9, 2005, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota.
   Robert is survived by his wife, Helen, six children and their families; son Ron (Connie) Boulton of Andover, grandson Christopher (Jenny) great-grandson Alexander, grandson Alan; son Roger (Roberta) Boulton of Canby, granddaughter Robyn Ann; son Gerald (Jan) Boulton of Canby, granddaughters Lisa (William) Hagestad, great-grandchildren Grace, William and Zach, granddaughter Jennifer (Jack) Dressen, great-grandchildren Ashley, Jordan, Jada and Jackie; daughter Linda (Tom) Andert of Brandon, granddaughters Amy and Sara; son Mark (Deb) Boulton of Porter, granddaughter Jodi (Doug) Loyson, great-grandson Lane, granddaughter Laura (Martin) Hennen, great-grandchildren Zachary and Kate, grandson Michael; daughter Carol (Bruce) Kack of Minneota, grandchildren Amanda, Megan, Joseph and Katelyn, siblings Esther (Jack) McLaughlin of Marshall, Mary (Al) Hess of Fond Du Lac, WI, Leonard (Betty) Boulton of Marshall, John (Corrine) Boulton of Porter, Joan (Harold) Regnier of Rochester, brother-in-law Irving Jerzak of Miltona, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, son Gene and sister Ruth Jerzak.

Robert Lyle Brogaard

   Robert Lyle Brogaard, 62, of Canby, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby with the Rev. Katherine Rood officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 23 from 5-8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Birk Funeral Home in Canby. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Canby City Cemetery.
   Robert was born in Canby on Jan. 7, 1943, to Elmer and Minnie (Nelson) Brogaard and was baptized at First English Lutheran Church. He attended school in Canby. Robert lived on the family farm in Oshkosh Township where he helped farm until 1995. On Nov. 23, 1995 he became a resident of REM and worked at Canby DAC, cleaning in the community and at the carwash. Robert was very proud of his job.
   Robert's interests in life were puzzles, reading magazines, being with friends and family, gardening and chocolates. He liked hockey and Twins baseball and loved being on the farm.
   Robert is survived by his brother, Roger (Karen) Brogaard of Canby; his sister, Rhonda Gawarecki of Tennessee; two nieces and two nephews; one aunt; and two uncles.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; and niece, Chanda Gawarecki.

Roger Bultinck

   Roger Bultinck, age 66, of Marshall, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005.
   Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church.
   Burial will take place at the Canby Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
   Roger Allen Bultinck, the son of Frank and Gladys (Karpinski) Bultinck was born on July 29, 1939 in Canby. He was baptized on Nov. 1, 1939 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Canby, and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church on May 31, 1952, in Canby. He graduated from Canby High School on May 31, 1957. He was proud to have played the tuba in the Canby Band. After graduation, he joined the National Guard. He was honorably discharge from the reserves on Sept. 16, 1964. Roger and Arletta J. Erickson were married Jan. 25, 1959, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Canby. They moved to Marshall after their marriage.
   Roger worked for the Marshall Produce, Marshall Sand and Gravel, Paramount Electric, and Coleman Electric before starting R.B. Electric in 1969. He continued his business until he became ill with cancer in January 2004. At the time of his death, he lived at Countryside Apartments which he owned and operated.
   Being raised on a farm, Roger loved country living. He always had animals of some kind around. The latest being his beloved cat, Red, who joined him on his walks. He was known for his large gardens, and he enjoyed giving most of his harvest away, especially his pumpkins to the children at Halloween. Roger was happiest when he was working, but during the winter evenings he enjoyed his TV with the family and usually had plans for spring fishing opener and fall deer hunting. Over the years he also enjoyed riding his Harleys.
Roger Bultinck, age 66, of Marshall, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005.
   Roger died on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 10 days.
   Survivors include his wife, Arletta; four children, Kelly (and Scott) Stewart of Hendricks, Rob (and Kim) Bultinck of Germany, Jamey Bultinck (and special friend, Marcia Klaith) of Marshall, and Barbara Hall (and special friend, Steve Kroger) of Brandt, SD; four grandchildren, Kory, Kayla, Kandace and Bruce Bultinck; two step-grandchildren, Naomi Maley and Duane Stewart; two great-grandchildren; Nicholaus Bultinck and Hunter Maley; one brother, Franklyn Bultinck, of Marshall; one sister, Carol Donaldson, of Rochester; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timothy; and one sister, Francis Vierstraete.

Mary Buysse

   Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Buysse, 79, of Minneota, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. `Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota.
   Visitation continues from 8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. on Saturday at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Minneota. Interment follows the service at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in Minneota.
   Mary was born on June 18, 1926, in Ypsilanti, N.D., to Leon and Alice (Vanlerberghe) Laleman. In the 1930s, she moved with her family to the Green Valley area. On Jan. 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Louis Buysse at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. The couple farmed in Westerheim Township for 37 years until they moved into Minneota in 1984. Mary was an active member of St. Edward Catholic Church. She was past president of the St. Joan of Arc Society, she distributed communion to the shut-ins and she was a member of the funeral committee.
   Mary was also a member of the Westerheim County extension club, the American Legion Auxiliary and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a 20 year volunteer at the Minneota Manor. She enjoyed spending time with family and special friends, playing card games, gardening, traveling and spending time at the Marshall and Minneota Senior Centers.
   Mary died on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall.
   She is survived by her husband Louis of Minneota, children Ken (Bev) of Minneota, Elaine (Dorance) Lacek of Canby, Joan (Dan) Janssen of Marshall, Steve (Gail) of Maple Grove, Annette (Jon) Fostervold of Willmar, David (Joy) of Minneota, Cathy (Chuck) Malvick of Fergus Falls, 11 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, brothers George Laleman of Marshall, Andrew Laleman of Garvin, and sister Margaret Stassen of Marshall.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Jeremiah Fostervold, great-grandchild baby Geppert and brother Joseph Laleman. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Prairie Home Hospice House of Marshall.

Henry M. Braun

   Henry M. Braun, 93 of Marshall, formerly of St. Leo, died on Thursday, July 14, 2005, in the Avera Morningside Health Care Center in Marshall.
   Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 21, in St. Leo Catholic Church with burial of cremains in the St. Leo Catholic Cemetery.
   Visitation will be held from 3:30 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, in Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall and continue Thursday one hour prior to Mass in St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo.
   There will be a C.C.W. Rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Arrangements are being handled by the Sunset Funeral and Cremation Association of Echo and Wabasso.
Henry Mathias Braun was born Saturday, June 8, 1912, in St. Leo to Mathias and Mary (Ballman) Braun. He grew up in St. Leo and attended school there. He painted farm buildings for a loan company for a couple of years. On June 23, 1936, he was united in marriage to Florence Eischens in St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo. They lived in St. Leo where he farmed and trucked, retiring from farming in 1956 and from trucking in 1961 when his son took over the business. He also worked as a carpenter for Fry Lumber Company in Hanley Falls until retiring in 1979. In January of 2000 they moved to the Marshall Square Apartments. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall and had belonged to the Men's Club in St. Leo Catholic Church. He was also active as a charter member of the St. Leo Lions Club, serving as Tail Twister, served as city clerk for eight years.
   He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and playing many different card games, having played "hand and foot" last Sunday.  
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Florence Braun of Marshall, his son Larry Braun wife Estelle (Citrowske) of St. Leo, five daughters; Jeanette Westerhaus husband Hank of Melrose, Evelyn Louwagie husband Dennis of Marshall, Carolyn Boerboom husband Gordon of Marshall, Ruth Louwagie husband Tony of Cottonwood and Florence Eischens husband Larry of Watertown, S.D., a son-in-law Blaine Mamer of Minneapolis. Also surviving are 36 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Mary Mamer in 1996, brother Nick Antony and nine sisters; Lena Abraham, Rose Johnson, Ann Kolb, Gertrude Antony, Martha Nosbusch, Catherine Grengs, Johanna Grengs,  Mayme Ebrel, and Margaret Hentges.

Mae Buer

   Funeral services for Mae Buer of Madison, formerly of Canby, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, at the Presbyterian Church in Canby.
   Mrs. Buer died Friday, March 11, 2005, She was 94.
   Pastor Donald Davis will officiate. Interment will be in the Canby Cemetery.
   Visitation will be Monday afternoon until 7 p.m. at the Zahrbock Funeral Home in Madison, Visitation will continue before services on Tuesday in the church.
   She is survived by five children: Todd and his wife, Arlys Buer, rural Canby, Mary and her husband, Kenneth Stamp, Burnsville, Reid and his wife, Jackie, Buer, rural Canby, and Curtis and his wife, Irma, Buer, rural Canby, Sandra and her husband, Sarge Duis, Canby.

Frank E. Bullert

   Funeral services for Frank E. Bullert, 57, of Canby, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby, with Rev. Katherine Rood officiating.  
   Burial will be in Marble Lutheran Cemetery, rural Canby.
   Margaret Olsen will be the organist, with the congregation singing "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Amazing Grace", and "Beautiful Savior". The casketbearers will be Merv Anderson, Floyd Melrose, Gerald Rhea, Darrel Johnson, Roger Nelson, and James Melrose.
   Visitation at the church on Friday will begin one hour prior to services.
   Bullert died on Friday, May 27, 2005, at Sioux Valley Canby Campus. The Birk Funeral Home in Canby is handling the arrangements.
   Frank Edward Bullert was born on May 28, 1947, in Glencoe to Edward and Mildred (Olson) Bullert. His early childhood was spent in Ghent before his parents moved to a farm in Norman Township south of Canby. He was confirmed at Marble Lutheran Church in 1962, where he was a lifelong member. He attended country school, and later graduated from Canby High School.
   Following the death of his mother in 1992, Frank continued to live at home in Canby. When Marble Lutheran closed in 2004, Frank became a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby.  
   Frank was an avid reader, and he enjoyed adding to his large collection of books and visiting the Canby Public Library.
   He is survived by several cousins, and was preceded in death by his parents.

Debra Jo Burell

   Memorial services for Debra Jo Burrell, 48, of Chisholm, formerly of Canby, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19, at First United Presbyterian Church in Canby, with Rev. Joel Reed officiating.  Interment will be in the Canby Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church.
   Norma DeWit will be the organist, with the congregation singing ?Amazing Grace?, ?What A Friend We Have In Jesus?, and ?How Great Thou Art?.  The honorary pallbearers will be Debra?s nephews and niece:  Jason Burrell, Ryan Jergenson, Jeremy Burrell, Joe Jergenson, and Meghann Burrell.
   Debra died on Sunday, Dec. 12, at her residence in Chisholm.
   She was born on March 10, 1956 in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, to parents Joseph E. and Dorothy E. (Rhea) Burrell.  She was a 1974 graduate of Canby High School, and had been a resident of Chisholm for more than 20 years.
   She is survived by her brother, Scott, (and Cindy) Burrell of West Fargo, ND;  her sister, Kimberly (and Kim) Jergenson of Marshall, MN;  four nephews;  one niece;  and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

 

Francis E. Burnham

   Funeral services for Francis E. Burnham, 88, of Canby, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby, with Rev. Katherine Rood officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, with military honors by the Clark-Hanson V.F.W. Post 117 of Canby.
   Karen Olsen will be the organist, with the congregation singing "Amazing Grace" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". The honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Clark-Hanson V.F.W.
   Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Birk Funeral Home in Canby, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to services.
   Burnham died on Thursday, March 17, at the Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby.
   Francis E. Burnham was born on Oct. 16, 1916, in Ada to parents Forrest and Alice D. (Denelsbeck) Burnham. He was raised in Ada, where he attended public schools.
   In January of 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, serving as a tank crewman during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the service in August of 1945. On Dec. 7, 1945, he was married to Katherine (Wiley) at the Baptist parsonage in Canby. The couple made their home in Canby as he worked as a delivery man for the milk plant, and later for Anderson Oil Company.
   He worked for many years as a custodian at Southwest State University in Marshall, a job which he greatly enjoyed. He and Katherine lived in Marshall during these years. They later returned to Canby, and worked for a time as custodians at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Katherine passed away in November of 2000, and Francis continued to live at home until becoming a resident of Senior Haven in Canby.
   Francis was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, where he faithfully served as an usher for many years. He served many appreciative families over the years as the funeral usher for Our Saviour's. He was a member of the Clark-Hanson V.F.W. Post of Canby and the Last Man's Club, and both organizations were very important to him.  Some of his enjoyments in life included helping out at the Senior Citizens Center, church, and visiting with his friends and neighbors.
   He is survived by several nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine; and his brothers: Charles, Ray, Miran, Lewis, and Johnny.

Ovie Carlson

   Ovie James Carlson, 77, of Canby, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at Sioux Valley Canby Campus Hospital in Canby.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, Oct. 31 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby with Rev. Katherine Rood officiating.
   Visitation will be Sunday, October 30 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Birk Funeral Home in Canby.
Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be at Florida Lutheran Cemetery in rural Canby.
Ovie was born the only child to Millard and Laura (Risdahl) Carlson, on March 15, 1928, on the Carlson Farm in Freeland Township, Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota. He farmed and raised livestock on the farm where he grew up with his parents. He was baptized on June 20, 1928, and was confirmed May 17, 1942, at Florida Lutheran Church. He graduated from Canby High School in 1946.
On Sept. 27, 1946, he was united in marriage to Arlyn Louise Thompson. He and Arlyn raised their 6 children on the family farm. Along with farming, Ovie drove stock and grain semi trucks for various local companies for the better part of 30 years. In 1982 Ovie and Arlyn purchased their home 1 mile north of Canby and enjoyed living there until September 2005 when they moved to the Sylvan Place Apartments in Canby.
   He was a life long active member of the Florida Lutheran Church until the church closed, and at that time he joined Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed being a farmer and found wheat fields to be a site to behold. He called them the amber waves of grain. Ovie loved being with his family and especially enjoyed all the holiday and birthday gatherings.
   Ovie is survived by his wife, Arlyn, of Canby; children: Beryl (Ray) Kuester of Canby; Graylen (Yupa) Carlson of Madison; Klay (Mary) Carlson of Stewart; Jerilyn (Tom) Anderson of Montevideo; LeWayne Carlson of Marshall; and LaRaye Carlson and Gary Snook of Lynd; grandchildren: Chutima (Roy) Huot of Dawson; Janel Kuester of Oakdale; Marney (Brian) Negen of Benson, MN; Parker Carlson of Cambridge; Jennifer Carlson of Stewart; Rebecca Anderson of Dawson; Donavin (Melissa) Anderson of Montevideo; Eric Anderson of Montevideo; and Kautia Carlson-Snook of Lynd; great-grandchildren: Courtney and Nathaniel Huot of Dawson; Chance and Abigail Negen of Benson; and Bryce Anderson of Montevideo; sister-in-laws: Marilys Aune of Canby; and Joyce DenHerder of Maquoketa, Iowa; brother-in-law; Darrell Kriese of Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; aunts and uncles; sister and brothers-in-law; and in-laws, James and Anna Thompson.

Joseph A. Cech Sr.

   Joseph A. Cech Sr. (II), 91, of rural Canby passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. at Birk Funeral Home in Canby with the Rev. Duane Baun officiating.
   Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Birk Funeral Home in Canby. Burial will be at the Canby City Cemetery.
Joseph A. Cech Sr. (II) was born in Hansonville Township in Lincoln County in the family home to Joseph J. Cech and Anna (Doctor) Cech on March 23, 1914. He attended country school and Canby public school.
   On Jan. 21, 1939, he married Ione Lorraine Olson and they lived together on the family farm, where he was born, until her death in 1995. Joe farmed his entire life until age 87, when he didn't feel comfortable driving the combine anymore, so he rented it out.
Joe served on the local Hansonville Township board as clerk for many years and also as a board member on the Canby Farmers Grain and Lyon-Lincoln Electric Coop board. He was a member of Marble Lutheran Church.
   Joe's hobbies were farming, hunting, fishing, gardening, dancing and planting lots of trees. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family cabin on Lake Cocrane, SD. Charlotte Cech has for many years been Joe's close friend and during the last few years of his failing health been a wonderful companion and care giver to Joe.
   Joe is survived by Charlotte Cech of Ivanhoe; his children, Colleen (Charles) Peters of Fremont, Calif., Sandra (Steve) Swanson of Portsmouth, N.H, Joe (Mary) Cech of Brookings, S.D, Jon (Eileen) Cech of Pryor Lake; his grandchildren, Carrie Peters, Dr. Amy (Dr. Donald) Stepan, Ann (Jeremy) Aho; great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Landon Aho; step-grandchildren Tom, Annie, and Daniel Spaulding; sister, Mavis (Parnell) Bjornson of Madison, MN; and sister-in-law Maidi (Mrs. George Cech) of Canby.
   Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna; his siblings, George Cech, Emma (John) Yackley, Sylvia (Edwin) Lundgren, Nellie (Sanford) Gorder; and his wife Ione (Olson) Cech.

Irene Chizek

   Irene Chizek, 90, of Chelsea, Mich., formerly of Canby, died Saturday, May 28, 2005. 
   Irene was born on April 10, 1915, in Canby to parents John and Anna Erp. 
   Survivors include her husband, Arthur Chizek; seven children, Ann (Herb) Wickersham of Clearwater, Fla.; Keith Chizek of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Carol (Peter) Hollis of Newbury, Mass.; Perry (Martha) Chizek of Dexter, Mich.; Robert (Nancy) Chizek of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Linda (Ken) Hosford of Dexter, Mich.; Laura (James) Mazur of Chester, New Hampshire; daughter-in-law, Mary Voight; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. 
   Irene was preceded in death by her son, Leigh Chizek.

Sheldon M. Christianson

   Sheldon M. Christianson, age 71, of Canby, MN passed away December 9, 2005 at Hendricks Hospital in Hendricks, MN. Funeral Services will be Monday, December 12, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Birk Funeral Home in Canby with Rev. Ellen Munter officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Porter, MN.
   Sheldon M. Christianson was born April 27, 1934 to Christ and Inez Christianson in Porter. He grew up in the Porter Community and graduated from Canby High School. He served in the Marine Corp for four years. Sheldon worked at Porter locker for many years.
   Sheldon is survived by his children, Jill, Lisa and Steve and their children. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon (Anthony) Otto of Sidney, MT; four nephews; four nieces; fifteen great-nephews and nieces; and two great-great-nieces; and several uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Audrey Christensen
   Funeral services for Audrey T. Christensen, 81, of Canby, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 3, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby, with Rev. Katherine Rood officiating.  Burial will take place in St. Stephen?s Lutheran Cemetery.
   Karen Olsen will be the organist, with the congregation singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Jesus Loves Me". There will also be special music by Bruce Melby, singing "If I Gain The World, But Lose My Saviour" and "I Need Thee Every Hour". The casketbearers will be Rich Rieger, Bob Eddy, Darold Snortum, Joe Rybinski Jr., Duane Steffes, and Gary Vonderharr. Honorary casketbearers will be all of Audrey's grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her many friends.
   Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Birk Funeral Home in Canby, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.    Visitation will continue at the church on Friday, one hour prior to services.
   Audrey died on Monday, May 30, at Senior Haven in Canby.
   She was born on February 8, 1924 in Canby, Minnesota, to parents Thorvald and Lillian (Kuester) Thompson. She was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Canby. She attended Canby Public Schools, and was a graduate of Canby High School.
   On Nov. 4, 1945, Audrey was married to Calvin G. Christensen at First English Lutheran Church. They lived in the communities of Hendricks, Hill City, and New Ulm, before returning to Canby in 1971. In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Audrey worked as a nurses' aide at Loretto Hospital in New Ulm, and also as a bookkeeper for the Canby Bank and for Snortum?s Nursery in Canby.
   Audrey led a wonderful and fulfilling life. She enjoyed playing the sax in the high school band.  Audrey devoted her life to God, and to taking care of her husband, Cal, her children, and her home. While at home she loved to do ceramics and especially cooking, always trying new recipies.
   Audrey loved traveling and camping, visiting her children, and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While traveling, even to Europe, she would collect rocks, spoons, and thimbles. Audrey was also blessed in life with being a cancer survivor.
   She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Women of the E.L.C.A., Ruth Circle, and Our Saviour's Lutheran Choir. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Hendricks, the American Cancer Society, and served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.
   Audrey is survived by her husband, Calvin;  her daughter, Monica Orren of Granite Falls;  her sons: Paul Christensen of Kooskia, Idaho,  and Todd (and Pam) Christensen of Eagan;  her grandchildren: Kim (and Duane) Steffes, Michelle (and Joe) Rybinski Jr., Susan Orren, Molly (and Gary) Vonderharr, Ariann Christensen, Monica L. Christensen, Tabitha A. Christensen, Jeremiah G. Christensen, and Chuck Christensen Jr.;  and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Carol (and Bill) Mansfield of Phoenix, Ariz.; her sister-in-law, Arlene Thompson of Maplewood;  and by many nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Charles Sr., her son-in-law, Dale Orren, and her brother, Elroy.

Dr. Naomi Christensen
   Memorial services for Naomi Christensen, 92, Grand Forks, N.D. were held Tuesday, Dec. 21 at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home Chapel, Crookston. Christensen passed away Sunday, Dec. 19 at the Riverview Hospital, Crookston. Interment will be at the Canby City Cemetery, Canby.
Naomi Christensen was born January 27, 1912 in Viborg, South Dakota to Andrew and Tida (Peterson) Christensen. She graduated from Canby High School in 1930 and from the Kirksville College of Osteopathy in Kirsksville, Missouri in 1942. She moved to Grand Forks, N.D. in 1943 where she practiced Osteopathic Medicine for 50 years retiring in 1993.
   She is survived by one niece, Sandra (Tom) Guinn of Windermere, Florida; and close friend, Dorothy Marsh of Canby.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Elta Bynum and one brother Arlo Christensen.

Oda Marie Christensen

   Services will be held for Oda Marie Christensen, 95, of Canby at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby, with Pastor Katherine Rood offficiating. Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery.
   Bruce Melby will sing "How Great Thou Art" and "Have Thine Own Way, Lord". The congregation will sing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Rock of Ages". Karen Olsen will be the organist. The casketbearers are James Hey, Tom Hey, Harvey Knutson, Lloyd Swenson, Curt Knutson and Howard Hacker.
   Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Birk Funeral Home in Canby, and also at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the services.  
   Oda Marie died on Monday, Feb. 21, at the Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby.
   Oda Marie Christensen was born on May 18, 1909, in Black Hawk County, Waterloo, Iowa, to James and Helene (Hansen) Christensen. She was baptized in Iowa and moved with her family to Canby in 1914. She was confirmed in Canby. She lived with her parents on a farm near Canby and attended rural school District 27 and District 36. She graduated from Canby High School in 1928. She worked in Canby for several years and in 1941 went to Marshall where she worked in the Gamble Store and then for 26 years for Arnold Motor Supply. She retired in 1974 and moved back to Canby.
   Oda Marie enjoyed people and traveling and spent much time working with Southwest Tours of Marshall.  She was a very caring person to members of her family and her many friends.
   She is survived by her sister, Evelyn (and husband Palmer) Lee of Howard, S.D.
   She was preceded in death by her parents and other relatives.

Isidore Citrowske

   Isidore Citrowske, 87, of Canby, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2005 at Sioux Valley Canby Campus Hospital in Canby.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Sept 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Canby with Father Tony Hesse officiating.
   Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church with a Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
   Burial will be at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Canby.
   Isidore Citrowske was born on May 30, 1918, to Albert and Margaret (Kraus) in the St. Leo area. He was baptized, made his first communion and confirmed in the St. Leo Catholic Church. He attended St. Leo Catholic School. On June 27, 1939, he and Irene Fox were married in St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. To them, eight children were born. Irene passed away on Nov. 7, 1969. On Feb. 6, 1971, he and Dorothy (Sik) Antony were married at St. Peter's Church in Canby, MN, and to them a daughter, Nancy, was born.
Citrowske farmed until he retired in 1977 and they moved to Canby. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved Christmas and watching the children be with Santa. He also enjoyed farming, playing cards, fishing, camping, traveling, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings games, and attending Canby wrestling matches. He also had a hobby of collecting caps.
   He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Canby; four sons; Ronald (Lynn) of Canby; David (Laura)of Prior Lake; Richard (Karen) of Ham Lake; and James (Elvira) of Encino, Calif.; three daughters: Deanne VanConnyte (Dave) of Silver City, N.M.; Grace Bedor (George) of Burnsville; and Nancy (Brian) Hanson of Granite Falls; step-children: Marv Antony of Clear Lake, S.D.; Leo (Karen) Antony of Canby; Wally (Sandy) Antony of Canby; Diane (Darwin) Schlapkohl of Canby; Viola (Rod) VanDeVeire of Canby; Darlene Antony of Eagan; Bernie (Keith) Wisniewski of Canby; and Margaret (Ron) Singsaas of Canby; 36 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; a daughter, Amy; and a daughter in infancy.

Sally Club

   Sally (Schalek) Club, 82, of Ivanhoe passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at the Hendricks Hospital.
   Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno with Father David Breu officiating.
   Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Birk Funeral Home in Ivanhoe. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
   Burial will be at St. John Cantius Catholic Cemetery in Wilno.
   Sally (Schalek) Club was born of Feb. 28, 1923, in Marble Township to Adam and Anastazia (Lasnetski) Schalek. She was baptized, received First Holy Communion, and confirmed at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno. On June 1, 1943, she married Leo Club at St. John Cantius Catholic Church. They went on to live and farm in Lincoln County.
   She has been a life long member and very active in St. John Cantius Catholic Church. She worked for funerals, served on the parish council, was a trustee, and also a choir member. Sally was also a member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary in Ivanhoe.
   She loved life and lived it that way. She loved to sing and to play softball. Playing cards with friends and family, especially her grandchildren, was a highlight of her life. She enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens. She loved the farm life and understood how important the farm life was to raising her children and grandchildren. But most of all, she enjoyed hosting family and friends on the farm.
   She is survived by her three children: daughter, Jeraldine (and Rick) Kautz of Sioux Falls, S.D.; sons, Ken (and Sandie) of Dawson; and Greg of Ivanhoe; seven grandchildren, Kelly (and Vince) Jones of Sioux Falls, Ryan Kautz of Sioux Falls, Mackenzie (and Travis) Duis of Shakopee, Kade Club of Fargo, N.D., Kelsey Club of St. Paul, and Mark and Kim Club of Canby; one great granddaughter, Payton Duis of Shakopee; one brother, Lawrence (and Alma) Schalek of Canby; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Anastazia; her husband, Leo; and seven brothers and sisters, Clara Irwin, Sophie Popowski, Carold, Alvin, Eddie, Clarence and Stanley.

Otis Coil

Otis Coil, 92, of Canby, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, in the Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby.
Funeral services will be at 11 on Thursday, Feb. 16, at the First Baptist Church in Canby with Rev. Jeff Cooper officiating.
Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery in Canby. Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Birk Funeral Home in Canby.
Otis Coil was born Sept. 18, 1913, in Yellow Medicine County to Otto and May (Brunning) Coil.
Otis was proud to be a farmer and farmed into his late 70's. He also worked in his brother's jewelry store and was a carpenter and liked to build furniture. After his retirement, he continued to raise cattle and pigs; and also did lots of gardening.
He and Thressa (Harms) were married for 67 years. They moved into a four-plex in Canby where Thressa passed away in 2000. Otis lived a few more years in the duplex when he finally, due to health, moved to Senior Haven where he lived until he passed away.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canby. Otis enjoyed old movies, home cooked meals, home made ice cream, and rides to the country. His favorite of all were his visits and reminiscing with friends and family members down to the very youngest.
He is survived by his five children: John (Marvel) Coil of Montevideo; Alta Watt of Canby; Marlys (Joe) Kontz of Canby; Roger (Joyce) Coil of Anoka; Connie (Kenneth) Streich of Champlin, 17 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Fern Coil, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thressa, parents, May and Otto, two brothers, Ralph Coil and E.B. Coil.

Duane Debettignies
   
Memorial services were held Thursday, De. 8, 2005, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud for Duane D. DeBettignies, 75, of Sauk Rapids, who died Sunday at the St. Cloud Hospital.
   Rev. Dee Pederson officiated and burial was at Wergland Cemetery near Porter.
   Duane was born Aug. 4, 1930 in Burton Township (Yellow Medicine County) to Henry and Ida (Amundson) DeBettignies. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Duane married Marlys Olson on May 26, 1957 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Canby. He owned and operated the Buffalo Ridge Gazette in Ruthton for 16 years, and was very active in the Ruthton community.
   Duane was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Tyler where he taught Sunday School and was on the church council and stewardship committee. Duane and Marlys moved to Sauk Rapids in 1988 and he worked at Sun Ray Printing in Sauk Rapids for 10 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud and Ruthton American Legion.
   Survivors include his wife, Marlys of Sauk Rapids; sons and daughter, Mark (Sherri) of Rosemount, Gail of Sauk Rapids, and Steve (Donna) of Lakeville; brother and sister, Tom (Marilyn) of Alexandria and Mary Nelson of Alexandria; sister in law, Florence of Canby; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
   Duane was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy and Lloyd; and sisters, Betty, Elaine, Lenore, Mavis, and Mae.

George Joseph De Vlaeminck
   Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton.
   Visitation is Thursday, Nov. 3, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 6 p.m. prayer service at Rehkamp and Horvath Funeral Home of Minneota.
   Interment follows at St. Edwards Catholic Cemetery in Minneota.
   George Joseph De Vlaeminck was born on May 19, 1917, in Ulsta, Belgium, to Archie and August (Remmerie) De Vlaeminck. The family moved to the United States when George was 3 years old and they settled in the Taunton area. In September of 1943, George was united in marriage to Bertha Timmerman at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. The couple farmed in the area until retiring and moving to Taunton. George also worked as a welder in Canby, a carpenter in the St Leo area and worked in the Meat Shoppe in Canby and Wickson's in Ghent. George loved rolle bolle and fishing. George had one brother, Robert, and two sisters, Margaret Polman and Mary Verschelde.
   He is survived by his wife, Bertha, of Taunton and children, Ed (Sandy) of Minneota, Pat (LeRoy) Hebrank of Minneota, Doreen (Gene) Jelen of Canby, Marge (Brian) Obe of Minneota, Barb (Ken) Wenker of Alexandria, and daughter-in-law, Hilary DeVlaeminck of Minneota.
   He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, David, brother, Robert, sister, Margaret, and two son-in-laws, Larry Goslar and Brian Gossen. He is also preceded in death by one grandson, Terry Jelen, one great granddaughter, Paeden Jelen, and one great grandson, Bruce Laleman, Jr.

Joseph Differding

   Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph "Joe" Differding, 82, of Minneota, will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 11, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton.
   Visitation will be from 4 p.m. ­ 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at Rehkamp ­ Horvath Funeral Home in Minneota and will continue from 8:30 a.m. ­ 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
   Interment will follow the service at Sts Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Taunton.
   Joe was born on May 9, 1923, in Burton Township to George and Katherine (Meyers) Differding. He attended school at District 106 and St. Leo. On May 24, 1944, Joe married Josephine (Josie) Kockelman. The couple farmed in the St. Leo and Taunton areas. In 1964, Joe became a substitute rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. In 1979, he became the regular mail carrier, a position he held until his retirement in 1986. In 1975, the farm was sold and the couple built a new home near the golf course in Minneota. Joe was active with his church and belonged to Catholic Aid Society, the Holy Name Society and the Taunton Parish Council. Joe loved spending time with people.
   He enjoyed spending time with family, visiting friends in the nursing home and having coffee and shaking dice with the gang. He also volunteered for many organizations including Prairie Home Hospice. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and dancing.
   Joe died on Friday, July 8, 2005, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall.
   He is survived by his wife, Josie, of Minneota, children David of San Francisco, Calif., Paul (Ellen) of Chanhassen, Daniel (Margarite) of Anthony, N.M., LuAnn (Mike) Fier of Minneota, Bev (Greg) DeVos of Plymouth, 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brother Alvin of Minneota, sisters Ann Thielges of St. Leo and Alice Machulda of Medina, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters Bonnie and Brenda, grandson Neil Fier, two brothers and two sisters. Memorials are preferred to Prairie Home Hospice of Marshall.

Nella Dunn

  Funeral services for Nella H. Dunn, 92, of Canby will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, at First Presbyterian Church in Canby, with Pastor Don Davis officiating.  Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery.
   Norma DeWit will be the organist, with the congregation singing "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art".  There will be special music by Bruce Melby, singing "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "In The Garden".  The pallbearers will be Jim Thovson, Bill Thovson, Larry Dybsetter, Bob Verhelst, Charles Percival, and James Martin.
   Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Birk Funeral Home in Canby, and will continue at the church on Monday, one hour prior to services.
   Mrs. Dunn died on Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby.
   Nella Helen Thovson was born on March 12, 1912 to Albert H. and Stina (Forlund, Nerby) Thovson in Wergeland Township, Yellow Medicine County, near Porter, Minnesota.  She was baptized at Porter Lutheran Church by Rev. Olaf Hoel of Canby, and was confirmed at St. Stephen?s Lutheran Church in Canby by Rev. C. Haugen.  She attended rural school, graduated from Canby High School in 1931, Canby Teachers' Training in  1932, and taught school for two years.
   Nella was married to Russell E. Dunn on October 14, 1933 at the Presbyterian Parsonage by Rev. C. Prentice.  They lived and farmed the former Thomas J. Dunn farm, which they later purchased.  They had two sons, Wendell and T. Jay.  Besides farming they operated an insurance and real estate business for 23 years, at which Nella worked as secretary, treasurer, and bookkeeper.  In 1962 they retired from farming, moved into Canby, and continued their insurance and real estate business until 1972,  when the business was sold to the late Don Nemitz.
   Nella has been a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 67 years.  She taught Sunday School, was a member of U.P.W. and Circle, and served as president of the Oshkosh Ladies Aid.  She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Extension Club, and the Wergeland Helping Hands Club.  Nella had many hobbies;  photo albums, memoir books, golfing, team bowling, and flower gardening in the summertime.  The family enjoyed golfing, bowling, and fishing, went on trips together, and had family gatherings.
   Nella is survived by her son, Wendell Dunn of Marshall;  her grandchildren:  Krista (and Marc) Pierson of Orlando, FL,  Chadwick (and Diane) Dunn of Chicago, IL,  John (and Julie) Dunn, DDS of LeSeuer, MN,  Polly Kloster of Fargo, ND,  and Gregory Dunn, MD of St. Paul;  and six great-grandchildren:  Michelle of Hopkins,  Jon and Rich of Plymouth, Keri Pierson of Orlando, FL,  and Michael and Aaron Dunn of Fargo, ND.  She is also survived by two sisters:  Charlotte Lien of Oregon, and Delores (and Roy) Aupperle of Minnetonka;  two brothers:  Edward Thovson of the Clarkfield Care Center,  and Sanford (and Dorothy) Thovson of Canby;  two sisters-in-law, Ardis Thovson of Albert Lea, and Carol Dunn of Riverside, CA;  and by many nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her parents;  her husband, Russell in 1995;  a son, T. Jay in 1999;  and sisters and brothers:  Olga, Ernest, Inez, James, Alice, Alvin, and Luella.

Amanda Dybsetter
   Funeral services were held for Amanda Dybsetter, 80, of Minneapolis, on January 17, 2005, at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel with interment at the Lakewood Cemetery. She passed away on January 14, 2005.
   Amanda Dybsetter was born on May 8, 1924 in Porter. She graduated from Canby High School in 1942. After she moved to Minneapolis, she had a long career as a medical secretary for Fairview Hospital.
   Dybsetter is survived by sisters, Ione Dybsetter and Florence Doran; nephews, Larry Doug and Gary; nieces Karen Cleveland and Cindy Doran-Tews; and many other relatives and friends.
   She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Norman and Edwin.
