Courtesy of geektools.com: Have plans to visit Hawaii (or for kama`aina, plan to take that nice long hotel vacation)? Then check out some of the Geektels with high speed internet access (some wireless) for those who need to stay connected and find regular phone lines lacking. But make sure you don't forget to go outside and enjoy the islands. Okay? :-)

Get those records into your iPod! No need for a preamp or extra gear, just your record player. Do so with Griffin Technology's iMic.

The iMic is probably the best and cheapest way to get audio into your Powerbook or iBook, and along with Griffin's free Final Vinyl 0.6 Beta, you can plug that trusty old turntable directly into the iMic (which in turn plugs into your USB port). Now you can finally get that out-of-print Beat Street Soundtrack LP onto your iPod.

The iMic/Final Vinyl combo is a great time and space saver because normally you'd need a pre-amp to boost a turntable's signal to line level (in other words, you usually plug it into some audio receiver or amplifier with dedicated Phono inputs). But FV 0.6 will compensate for the low level automatically. Very convenient.

The Read Me file warns that this is still a beta, so while it's free, there's still bugs. No indication on how much the final "Final" will be, but if it's under $30, I'm sold.

For now, I'll be transferring my audiophile Classic Records 180g vinyl edition of Kenny Burell's not-on-CD "Weaver Of Dreams." Right after "Beat Street," of course.
