Leica M4-P

The M4-P replaced the M4-2 to firmly re-establish the rangefinder Leica as the ideal camera for those photographers, particularly professionals, who need its special attributes of accurate focussing with hight speed lenses, especially in dim light, and quiet vibration less operation for discreet, unobtrusive work or hand-held exposures with slow shutter speeds.

It differs from the M4-2 in that bright line frames are provided in the parallax-corrected viewfinder for 28mm and 75mm lenses in addition to the 35mm, 50mm, 90mm and 135mm of the M4 and M4-2.

The frames are arranged in pairs thus: 28mm and 90mm, 50mm and 75mm, and 35mm and 135mm.

A pre-selector on the front of the camera allows each pair of frames to be viewed in turn for selecting the appropriate focal length. In all other respects the M4-P is similar to the M4-2.

In 1979, the fourth version of the Summicron 35mm F:2 with a new optical design and diffrent lens body was presented. This is how the company brochures described this lens: " Elevated contrast, a perfectly sharp image and a fantastic resolving power guarantee an image quality over its entire focal length. This lens is considered one of the best high speed wide-angle lenses in the world." c1980-86 .
