Preston

A quick report from a survey visit to Preston that took place on Wednesday 14th March 2007.

A total of 5 adders and a grass snake observed.

I was suddenly disturbed on the site by a couple who had lost their dog which had become trapped in some brambles. I managed to stop them from entering what we consider to be a very sensitive site and advised them against allowing their dogs to freely roam. I then took them back out of the area showing them two adders and a grass snake on the way!

Situations like this can often result in a favourable conservation outcome. In this instance two people saw animals that they wouldn't ordinarily see and learnt a little about the need for conservation in the process. The couple were very grateful and also very surprised by their encounters. Hopefully for the better!
