Why I Created This Cabaniss Genealogy Site
I confess, one of the reasons I created this site is simple.
I created it as a challenge; I did it just to see if I could.
The idea of the site's focus was pretty easily selected, Cabaniss
genealogy. The only web site I knew that covered Cabaniss genealogy
was that belonging to Susan CABANISS
Bradford. But I wanted to limit my focus to the line descending
from Henri Cabaniss' son, Matthew.
More specifically, I wanted to
let others know that my gg grandfather, Elijah, a son of George
Cabaniss and Palatea Harrison, had not left Georgia and just
"died in Arkansas," as John Plath Green wrote in his
1956 compilation, Henry Cabaniss and His Descendants.
I had seen the work of many genealogists quote Green's book,
saying Elijah went to Arkansas and died, ignoring Elijah's marriages
and descendants. With the Cabaniss genealogy so heavily researched,
I wanted to present details of Elijah
and Union County, Arkansas; details of which many others had
no knowledge.
I also wanted to pass on to others
what people like Susan CABANISS Bradford and Laura
Jane CABANISS Walters had passed on to me. I'm deeply indebted
to these two people. They stood at a copy machine, copying the
books written by John Plath Green and Allen Cabaniss. Using those
copies, I prepared pdf files of the books so that others doing
research on the Cabaniss lines had some basic research material.
The books are difficult to find; I began to feel that the only
way I would ever obtain a copy was to be included in someone's
will!
