Work-in-progress (2009)

"In vain we shall penetrate more and more deeply the secrets of the structure of the human body, we shall not dupe nature; we shall die as usual." - Bernard Le Bovier de Fontanelle (1657-1757)

Considering the technical capabilities at the time when de Fontanelle wrote this quote, it is remarkable just how deep we ventured into the human anatomy; still unable to escape the inevitable. Assessment and scanning of the body, internally or externally continues to inform us, sometimes resulting in decisions to replace a piece of ourselves - a body part, to “better” ourselves either cosmetically or out of necessity...

The system of the human body with the pathways of veins and arteries, the skeletal structure and the intricate connections are such a complex map. But our scars and marks on the skin are also a map of our self history.
