The
Adoption Process
All reputable rescue
organizations follow essentially the same procedure for adopting
pets to new homes.
Prospective owners must complete a detailed adoption application.
When an appropriate “match” between home and pet is made, a rescue
volunteer will conduct a home visit. The purpose of this is to
ensure a safe, loving new home and help the new owner understand
what to expect and how to best help the pet adapt to his/her new
surroundings.
An
adoption donation is required – the amount is determined by the
rescue organization and may vary depending on the nature of the
pet. Generally speaking, you can probably expect to pay $200-$300.
Remember, pets placed through rescue are spayed/nuetered, up to
date on vaccinations and necessary veterinary care done before
being adopted to a new home.
A rescue volunteer will follow up to provide advice and support
during the adjustment process.
You
must agree to and sign an Adoption contract that states that you
will provide a good home, quality food, all necessary veterinary
care and loving, humane treatment at all times.
Should you EVER find
yourself in a position where you are unable to continue giving the
pet a loving home, you must contact the rescue organization and
return the dog to them for re-homing. You may not sell or give the
pet away without the permission of the rescue organization.
