2 days, what to do?!
Sep 16 2007-19:16
This is the first time in a very long time that i have had both days of a weekend off. Normally i would be at work on the Sunday catching up. You see, i like to have Saturday off because places are open. I can go shopping or do whatever, but on Sundays i usually get bored, so i go to work! But this weekend, there is nothing to catch up on. There is still work to do before we load the truck, but i have lots of time to do that on Monday.
So on Sat i slept until about 11am and then went to the bar to watch the All Blacks rugby game. I stayed for the Oz - Wales game and then went home to cook and lounge about.
Sun, i slept until noon (!) and finally got around to catching up on my typing and organizing. You can probably tell from the fact that there are 5 new posts in one day, and some people even got emails! Whoo for me.

Juli and Alice sent me messages telling me that the show in Munich was fucking great! *sigh* And then i find out that this current line up of musicians will be disbanded after this tour, which ends on Sept 18 in Hawaii. Shit, now i regret not going and seeing a great show with this lineup... At least i got to see them one more time. And when i see them again, it will be a new band, and i would have seen all the variations of band mates for NIN!
Concert bound (and back)

In Konstanz, CH waiting for a train, sitting in a bar. Enjoying a Pisco sour. Can't recall the last one i had. Must have been with Pia. Strong thoughts of her right now. Resisting the urge to open the phone and look at pics of her. This Pisco sour is not the same, think they made it wrong, but it's still ok.
Almost didn't get into Germany for the concert. Apparently you need a passport! Always thought my Swiss work permit was enough. Found out the hard way that it is not enough and it cost me 10 CHF.
Good show all in all. Long day though! We had to stay inside the wavebreaker (closest area to the stage) for many hours, but i got to see some new bands. NoFX disappointed me. It was mostly the sound failing, but the band just didn't seem to play like i thought they would. Billy Talent kicked ass and in one of their dialogues to the crowd, they confirmed that they are from Toronto. Cool. The ETS group that i met up with was fucking cool! So glad we put the effort into meeting up! Poor Trent (lead singer, NIN) though, the promoter fucked him. Wish i had got the camera out sooner, but i didn't recognize him! He gave a disclaimer speech before the show about the lack of power and therefore the lack of light show. it seemed the first 5 or 6 songs were in complete anger about the show and the promoter. He was unable to play a lot of Year Zero tracks because of the lack of power, so the show was a bit surreal. Mostly old stuff, hard, heavy, kick ass. He even played Dead Souls! Which was fucking cool since i was listening to that song on the train to Konstaz and was telling myself how cool it would be if he played it.
Then the German curse continued. During Hurt. There i was, 3 metres from Trent, pouring his heart out over the piano, barely through the first verse when some wanker at the front, just a few metres to my left, yells out, 'Head Like a Hole!!' Alice got all this on video, clear as day. Trent stops playing, says to the guy, 'I fucking heard you before, you don't need to keep yelling it.' The wanker yells it again, Trent walks away, turns back, says, 'fuck it' and kicks over the piano! The band starts playing The Hand That Feeds and Trent proceeds to throw many bottles of water at the wanker! He was pissed, considering he had just made another speech to the crowd about how he feels he is quite level and clean now, but when his show gets fucked up (with lack of power for example) he goes insane; then this wanker in the crowd goes and fucks it up!! NIN played two more songs, and that was it.
I was a bit torn, emotionally. The show was so different than others, more raw, more personal, but it got messed up at the end. I really wanted to go to Munich with Alice and Cati to see the next show, which was not a festival event. But alas, smarted heads prevailed and i am sitting in Konstanz waiting for the train home.
Didn't even get around to mentioning the camp site antics, but it's probably best i don't...

Random thoughts on a train

What did we do before headphones? Did we sit on public transit and just stare out the windows? Stare at each other? Actually talk to people - strangers? And why do so many kids have headphones? I don't mean kids like 13 or 14 (although they are kids to me!) I mean 8 year olds. Is it a way for parents to keep the kid distracted? Great parenting. I suppose it works though. Me? If I were a parent traveling 3 hours or so on a train with a hyper toddler, I would use a lot of drugs; on him. Sleeping pills. Keep the little fucker sedated. Whole lot better on my nerves and the other passengers too. Or maybe just use a lot of drugs on myself to keep me spaced out and not caring. I'm sure there are many people (myself included) that are happy (and relieved) that I don't have kids!
Wish I was left-handed. It just looks so cool. I might start to use my left hand only and train it to work.
