But first off, i just noticed that in a previous post, i say 'every woman...' and not 'everybody'. It got me thinking that in this circumstance, i used the correct word. When thinking about it, i have NEVER seen any guy do laundry at our place.I shit you not, only the women do the washing. (in our building at least)
To blog, at some fucking point:
-snowboarding with Carmen (great day!)
-the hitch-hiker (and her destination)
-the state of news reporters today
-the farmer party (part 2)
-whatever else i can think of!

Snowboarding - Finally
Mar 30 2008-15:25
Through a comedy of errors and a stroke of last minute luck in planning, I was finally able to get out to the slopes for some snowboarding. This was the first (and sadly, only) time this year that I was able to. Well, that’s not 100% true, I had snowboarded a couple times when I was home for Christmas, and so I should have said ‘first and only time this year in Switzerland’. Done.
We get there at a decent time, and had a full day on the slopes. With a couple of beer breaks thrown in there too :) The conditions were epic. About 13 degrees, although this made the afternoon a bit slushy on one side of the mountain, so we rode there in the morning and on the shady side in the afternoon. Mint.
It was also the first time to try out my new goggles. I bought them because they are designed to go over glasses. I thought this would be a better idea than using contacts for riding. Normally I use my contacts for any sporting activity. The goggles worked pretty well, just a bit of fogging on my glasses when I was stopped. However, the issue with them comes from shunting. I thought it would be a good idea to try some off trail stuff. It’s a little deeper and softer snow, and looked like fun. Besides, Carmen did it, so I can too, right? Too soft, hooked a toe side edge and went down face first. Did a sort-of half twist and a roll and ended up in a normal riding position again, sweet, except the initial impact had caused my goggles to be ripped off and in the process, taking the glasses with them. So when I ended up righted again, I couldn’t see fuck all, and was in the initial 8 year old shock of ‘oh no! my glasses!’ … so I promptly fell again. Hard.
When I came to a stop, it was like a bad cartoon. I ended up on my knees, facing up the hill, and then just to my right, the goggles came sliding past me and stopped maybe a metre behind me. Glasses were not in them… I sat pondering how I would find them in the deep snow, when Carmen came skiing up to me, stopped just above me and asked if all was ok. Well, everything except missing glasses. She pointed down to a spot just between the two of us; ‘there they are’. Indeed.

Farmer Party - Part Deux
Mar 28 2008-15:24
Tonight was the dancing presentation that we were invited to just before Christmas. By now, it was only me that was going, since Scott and Crespi had both left the company and country by now. Michu, at least, would be meeting me there at some point. I call these little parties that I sometimes get to go to ‘farmer parties’ because, well, that’s kinda how they feel! Finding the place is hard enough. It really is in the middle of a large farming community and everyone knows everyone – literally. But they are fun. The team of dancing girls was very good, and the people I met there were quite friendly and spoke enough English for me to feel welcome.
There is a common game at these parties, I’m sure it has a name, but I don’t know it. It consists of a large piece of soft wood (think tree trunk) and the number of players determines the number of nails that are started into the wood – one for each player.
When it is your turn, you have one chance to hit the nail with the hammer. This continues around the wood, and when your nail is fully embedded into the wood, you are ‘safe’. The last person with a nail still up buys the round of (cheap) shots for the rest of the players.
Sounds easy? Did I mention the head of the hammer is hollow? With very little surface area to hit the nail with. Also, you cannot ‘line-up’ your nail, as in hover the edge of the head above the nail and swing. You need to start with the hammer away from the wood and go for it. I played three times, and succeeded in acquiring free shots each time :) But you need to play early in the night, the later (and more drunk) players get, the longer the games last!!

Comes out in the Wash

One thing the Swiss take to heart almost as much as their money is their laundry. 'wtf?' i hear you say. i shall try to explain says i. if you live in a shared building, and use the communal washing machines, there is like a whole code of conduct and ethics that need to be followed. All this is for not if you have your own washing machine of course.
I won't get into all the rules beacause it's pointless. However, today was my scheduled washing day. which means technically i can tie up the washing room for the whole day. I put one load in before work and when i came home to get it out, i noticed that the brand new bottle of fabric softener had tumbled off the washing machine and made a big fucking mess on the floor.
With no time to clean it (since i had to get back to work) i figured i would do it at lunch, so i put in the second load and came back at lunch only to discover that i didn't have any time then either, due to other complications.
New plan - leave the 'busy' sign on the door all day and clean it after work. when i get home, there was a mop and bucket just inside the washing room and the landlord was there (just good timing, he wasn't waiting for me at least) i explained what happened, and he explained that all day, nearly every women in the building at some point had knocked on his door to complain about the mess.
Point 1 - fuck off!
point 2 - it was my day for washing, what are you doing in there anyway?
point 3 - ya got nothing better to do??
point 4 - fuck off (did i say that already)
at least the landlord was cool about it, but i think next time i will put the bottle of fluid on the table in the room! :)

For Better And Worse
Mar 17 2008-00:20
Today was my first day off in about 30 (i think... i've lost count) and i planned a few things for this 'special' day. But near none of them happened!
Sleep in. that was an easy given, and that did happen. then i wanted to clean my room - also a success. yesterday i fixed my rear bicycle tire in hopes of using it today, or maybe go for a run. High winds put a damper on the bike ride, and then rain made me reconsider the run (i know, i know, it's only water)
after all that, i was going to actually catch up on all the online shit - Facebook, emails, pictures, whatever. That was looking possible, then i found the F1 race being replayed in its entirety at 13:30. I fell asleep during the race (guess i needed more sleep than i thought!) and woke at 15:50, just enough time to get changed and pick up G. We were off to see Biel play hockey in game 7 of the semi-finals. it was a great game, and some beer was consumed. :) after we hung around the rink with some friends while the crowd cleared, then decided that pizza was the go for dinner. Pizza and more beer! by the time i got home, it was near 23:00 and the last half of the A1GP race from Mexico was on. Sweet.
So all in all, it was a pretty cool day, with some racing, hockey, beer, friends and i got out of the house for a bit. The down side - all the online shit i said i would did is still 'on the pile' so to speak... one day, eh!? :)

Road Trippin'
Mar 10 2008-23:29
So.. Friday night at the end of work, i get told that the original plan for Sat (make a seat for my new driver) has been moved to Monday. humm.. so i go into work anyway to catch up a little bit, and take off at 12:30. eat, shower, get some money, fill the van (did i mention i borrowed the company van?) and head to Heidleburg, Germany for a concert. Probably should have told the boss how far i was taking the van, but whatever. The concert: Tegan and Sara with Northern State opening. The result: 16.50 Euro for a ticket at the door, and nearly 200 Euro for diesel, parking, food and drink! but very very worth it.
Northern State blew up the stage. i know a lot of their songs, and they performed them so very well, with a bit of dialog in there as well, which is always nice. Too short of a set, but that is common for an opener. They are still a struggling band (in the grand scheme of things) so they work their own merch table after the show. They were very busy, which is a good thing, so i said a few words, bought a vinyl, and had them sign it. :)

The down side: road trips don't seem as much fun anymore... Perhaps it is a language thing. i didn't really interact with anyone, i felt rather bored (at least until the show started) and i didn't know what to do afterwards, so i started driving home, and then slept in the van until the next morning.
I did start talking to 2 American girls, and asked how they knew T&S. Their answer "we heard them for the first time about 2 years ago... when we were in grade 8." (!!) blank stare from me. Ever want to feel instantly old - get in that situation. :)
Bottom line: so very glad i did it, don't mind spending the money, just wish there was someone to share the trip with, that's all...

More Nostaliga
Mar 02 2008-21:12
Through some fucked up clicking, as i am prone to do (wander the Internet aimlessly... for too many hours at a time) i came across the name of a band i used to listen to. First task: open P2P program and download a couple of songs. Few minutes later and i was listening to The Soup Dragons. Ring any bells? probably not. But fuck me dazed, what a flood of memories. One of those moments wen the power of the brain is overwhelming.. It's not like i 'forgot' about the band, it's just the brian filed the memory of me knowing that band into some corner that doesn't get used. And it took this innocent little spark to trigger that memory.
Cool.
PS: the two songs i got are 'Divine Thing' and 'I'm Free'

To those of you that actually read my tripe, and expressed concern for my mood - thank you. :)
It's not as bad as it seems, really.
