Randomness and Fatalistic Meetings
Aug 21 2006-21:01
This one is fresh in my head, so i need to spit it out sooner than later. short history - at Street Parade last week, i met a really cool girl, Breena. we shared 'something' ideals, attitudes, outlooks, not sure, but i had a great time with her even if it was for just one day. she was then off to Rome, Florence and Brussles - in that order. And i was back to work and then to London on Wed just past.
So this morning (about 11ish) i get to the train station in Basel, after flying in from London. heading up the escalator, when i see 'her'. It's the shoes first, can't mistake them, and the pants are familar, the messanger bag over the left shoulder and hanging by the right hip, the hair. I know this must be her. There is a couple blocking the escalator (stand right, walk left!!! it's a universal law you dumb fucks!!) so i have to wait and wait. Running after her, i catch up just before she heads down to her platform, and indeed, it is Breena!!! Such a random event. how is it that in all the scheduling in all the train stations in all of Europe, Breena and i are to end up on the same escalator in the same station at the same time.
We had only 15 min before we were due to depat yet once again, so we shared a drink, caught up on the weeks happenings, and laughed about the chance meeting.
That definately made my day, and made all the travel up to that point so very worth it! i will have that image of her expression in my head for a while now, that's for sure! it was a combination of shock, surprise, elation.. what else. It was more like when you open that Christmas present that you are sure is exactly what you wanted, only to find out it is something a shit load better that you never knew you wanted in the first place...
Godspeed Breena, all the best

When Machines Attack - vol. 1
Aug 15 2006-22:12
hopefully it's the only volume! first off, to the one that actually reads all of these, i'm sorry.. i'm a muppet :( it's just, it's just.. well, it sorta defies explanation.. whatever, onward and upward.
today, early (so it put the whole day off) i was working on the lathe at work. a lathe you ask? it's a machine that spins metal around (usually very fast) so that i can use cutting tools to make it into shapes and pieces i want. hard to explain what it is and what it does.
anyway
i had it spinning away, and was doing nothing out of the ordinary, but my left hand got 'stuck' to the turning piece, and proceded to try and wrap it around the piece at an alarming rate! couldn't reach the kill button in time (really there was no time, or warning, just a whack of pain!) managed to numb the shock and go put the hand under running water (seemed like a good idea). slowly i was able to move it again, which gave me some relief, but even now, 12 hours later, it still hurts like a bitch!
so live and learn... at least i have a bit more respect for the machine! i did before, but i was stunned how fast shit can happen...
off to London tmrw, stories stories stories!!! when i return
Cheers

Street Parade '06
Aug 14 2006-20:15
i recall writing about this last year as well.. but this year was so much better for many many reasons..
Odd.. sometimes i feel like writing a fucked up, real deep, personal post, and don't. But then something like this weekend happens, and you just have to write!
So.. fuck me dazed! i cannot believe how much can happen in about 40 hours!! In order, loosely based on importance, here goes:
1) lost my best sunnies :(
2) managed to spend 430 Swiss Francs in about 6 hours...
3) met an amazing girl... even if for only a few hours :(
4) Red Bull and Absinth sounds great, tastes great, but is quite possibly not my best idea yet!
5) met some absolutely amazing people
you see, Street Parade happens every year in Zurich and it is huge. about 1 million last year, this year seemed a bit smaller, but the weather might have done that. in short, it's like a massive rave, but really it's a fuck load of people gathering in one place to listed to bitchin' music, have a great time, be happy and forget the world for a few hours.
don't want this to get too long, but there was so much that happened! within 2 hours of being there, we had a group. Lyn (Sydney), Min Yen (London), James (Melbourne), Lars (Copenhagen), Mick (Keri, Ireland), Vanessa (Sydney), Becs (London), Breena (Idaho), Dutchie (don't know his name!), Craig (London) and David (South Africa, London based). big group! and only 2 pairs knew each other.. the rest of us were solos, just happend to be right place, right time! EVERYONE was great! we all had dinner together on Fri night. Jonh (Belfast) joined us as well, but he was leaving on Sat morning. (top shelf bloke though)
Hummm.. maybe point form..
-dinner was good, went for some drinks after, then went on to find this 'elusive' club. that is not too elusive, as it is the most well known club in Zurich, just no one seems to know where the fuck it is! about 5 km later (we got to a point when we just had to find it!) it was worth the walk in the pouring rain, and the 30 Franc cover... ugg. it was huge, and pumping! eventually, a live band came on; playing house and trance! how, i don't know, but it worked!! got home about 3 ish and was keen on sleep for the big day the next day.
hummm.. point form is not working either!
Sat threatened rain, but managed to hold off at the right times. went out for brekkie (Brunch?) and stopped for a bit to catch some of the DJ set at the McDonald's.. yes. Mick D's. there was a DJ rocking the lobby with some phat bass... from there Street Parade was indescribable! had so much fun, so much dancing, so much Red Bull and Absinth, little bit of vodka, beer, caffine pills, crazy! humm.. now that i see all that written down at once, i can't help but feel that combination might have attributed to my 'illness' the next morning :) (so worth it!!)
Speaking of which.. i can't stand that feeling of desperatly needing, and wanting, to throw up, and you just can't. i lived with this for God knows how long, and finally did the dirty... i have never done this before, but was shocked how well it worked! i actually jambed my fingers down my throat and let it all fly! ugg. felt a lot better at least :)
on that note, i should end this epic tale about now.. there is shit loads more that happened!! but i am writing that down elsewhere ;)
Cheers

whats better? to do what you love no matter where in the world, or to do anything in that one place in the world that you want to live out the rest of your days? i came across this photo while looking for some other photo, and i was thown for a loop of feelings and thoughts. how could you not love that place? i would give anything to be there tomorrow, if i could also have what i am doing now there as well! (cake and eat it too, or something like that, eh?)
perhaps it's one of those things that will happen if it's supposed to.. fuck that sucks.
cheers for now.
