Grandhotel Giessbach
Brienz, CH
Arriving from the airport by way of the Brunig pass railroad, boat and
cablecar to the plateau over lake Brienz, where the Grandhotel Giessbach is
located next to the Giessbach falls. Built originally in 1875 during the golden
age of tourism and about 100 years later saved from destruction by a foundation
and painstakingly restored since, the stunning victorian area building and
interior feels somewhere between a museum come alive and a ghost from the past.
The isolated and remote location probably help to maintain the particular
ambiance and the illusion of time-warp.
