Financial District
The oldest part of NYC around wall-street is a tourist attraction by
itself. The narrow streets surrounded by towering buildings create the effect of
canyons and leave an intimidating impression of power. The standard shots of
Trinity Church looking down Wall-street puts things into perspective: churches
used to once be the tallest buildings, they were supposed to be glorious and
intimidating structures erected as symbols of a communities reverence for their
God. Today, the tower of trinity church is nearly asphyxiated between the
financial towers flanking it on either side (at least in this perspective),
while the pompous neo-classical facade of the NYCE building is decidedly more
that of a temple than that of a market hall. After a stop at the worlds most
controversial construction site, we turn to the beginning of Broadway with the
statue of the charging bull. Since bronze statues tend to be light and polished
where a lot of people touch it for good luck, one can easily assess what matters
most in the high-testosterone culture of Wall-street: balls!
