The Lieutenant of Inishmore
by Martin McDonagh - Atlantic Theater
A very dark and macabre comedy about a society in the late stage of
terrorist struggle - where there are only patriotic songs and slogans left and
nobody to remember what they used to mean, where senseless violence has become
such a way of life that human life is worth significantly less than that of a
cat. Not that a cat's life shouldn't be worthy, but people are animals too...
Free Ireland - but free of what? If to judge by the actions of all those self
appointed champions of the glorious patriotic cause - free of its own people
presumably!
