I La Galigo
Lincoln Center Festival - New York State Theater
Not for the MTV generation with its 15min attention span is this 3hour
non-stop performance adapted after an indonesian mega-myth. Surprising how much
the myths in different parts of the world seem to resemble each other - or is it
due to the projections of the author who had to choose a narrative out of the
towering collection of episodes surrounding the original story. A large number
of people left during the performance, but those who could muster the patience
to stay could experience a place and time when time was still measured in days
and not seconds and stories about the human condition would be told and acted
out in the gravity of sparse words and gestures.
