Basil Twists's Symphonie Fantastique
Dodger Stages - 340 W50th St.
Ever wondered how abstract puppet theater would look like, or MTV for
classical music or music for the royal underwater fireworks? Performed in a
giant fish-tank on stage to the sound-track of Hector Berlioz' Symphonie
Fantastique, this puppet show is anything but usual. I had seen it during its
original run at HERE in SoHo and now at this new midtown off-broadway theater
complex. Unfortunately, this second time was somewhat painful, at least for my
left ear exposed to an overdriven speaker. Despite the MTV analogy, this isn't
heavy-metal - it helps drive the speakers at no more than 50% of their
peak!
