A Second Hand Memory
by Woody Allen @ Atlantic Theater (336 W 20th st)
Maybe it is intentional that the play in the play feels, sounds and
looks a lot like those classics of post-war American theater dealing with
shattered American dreams and dysfunctional families - like in "Death of
Salesman" or "Long Days Journey in the Night". Specially since the commentary
addressed to the audience of the alleged play-wright, turning family history
into her first play, sound decisively different in tone. On a scale of
dysfunctionality probably somewhere in between the two families portrayed in the
2 play mentioned above, this production is enjoyable (if you enjoy the misery of
others...) in its familiarity and particularly through the performances of the
extraordinary cast.
