Zankel Hall - 7th ave/57st
Checking out the brand-spanking new Zankel Hall for an evening of
baroque chamber music played with period instruments. The small auditorium
creates an intimacy of a jazz club, but with the acoustic design of a
first-class concert hall. Especially the historic wood-winds, show how much
technical evolution there has been in this area - but also how the particularly
warm tone of those oboes and bassoons has become more precise versatile and
neutral in the process.
