While on a DXpedition is can be fun to get away from the shack and venture out on to the beach or hiking trail. Bring a radio along! A Mini-Buddipole system, even when packed with extra goodies, weighs only 5 pounds and fits comfortably into the soft attache case. A vertical configuration with a small number of radials (3-5) can be erected in minutes on a short mast. The radio is an ICOM IC-703+ which provides up to 10 watts of power. One of the interesting things about this radio is the wide range of acceptable voltages the radio will accept (not just 13.8v). This makes the radio ideal for the trail and use with a wide variety of battery technology.
