In November 1997 just before Thanksgiving, the Japanese Tramp freighter Kuroshima dragged her anchor in a storm near Dutch Harbor Alaska. She went up on a sandy beach, but not before putting a hole in one of her fuel tanks. The oil from the ship went right into a fresh water lake perched just above the beach. Two crewmen's lives were lost in the accident. These pictures were taken by the Harbormaster in Dutch the day after the accident.
