Day 35 - Sunday, August 1st

Back to Bruce's Big Ride homepage

At La Porte, IN

Today was bike maintenance, laundry, drying out sleeping gear, movies, church, eating out, and most important of all, rest. We were up late (6:30) and grabbed a ride to the Laundromat. After getting back, I rode my bike to the First United Methodist Church where I was warmly received by many people. Scott and Joe then met me downtown (?) for lunch and a movie. We saw the Bourne Supremacy, and I actually saw most of it. We came back and I made some sewing repairs, and cleaned my bike while waiting for a ride to a friend of the Big Ride’s house for some Internet access.
Last night, we had an amazing feast and party, and the hospitality hasn’t stopped since. When we returned today, Larry Noel, our local host, showed up with a stack of pizza boxes for an afternoon snack. The locals here in LaPorte showed up in droves to support us including taking many out for water skiing, shopping, and a host of other activities. We have truly been blessed by the outpouring of support we’ve felt here. Only 11 riding days left. How could it have gone so quickly?

Need I say more?

Paula is the second in command on the Big Ride. She is a great supporter of the riders, and also rode around the world on a ride in 2000.

The picnic plaza that is our central area on the rest day here in LaPorte Tents are spread all around the beautiful park where we're camping.

They wouldn't let us park up against the building at the movies, so we improvised out in the parking lot. Jeff is hard at work as usual, keeping the ride on schedule and making sure all of our future stops and routes will be great.

The email I'll use this summer is brucesherman@mac.com. Send mail to this address to say hello and I'll be able to read it on the ride.
