Officially, this is the box girder. It is a built up steel beam that provides much of the longitudenal structural support for the ship. There is one on each side of the ship at the top corners of the hull. We call them the tunnels. They also carry most of the electrical wiring going forward as well as various kinds of pipework running fore and aft on the ship.
