BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Bruce and Jean share the joys and responsibilities of life. They live on Watershed Farm in rural Missouri, U.S.A. Bruce is an avid rider, trainer, and instructor. His love and respect for horses shines throughout his book Ten Golden Rules of Horse Training.
Bruce rides a Morgan stallion named Gabriel. Jean rides an Arabian gelding, Shalladdin, and a Thoroughbred gelding named Ruppert. Bruce and Jean keep a Miniature Mediterranean Donkey, Henry Hee-Haw, as a companion.

Bruce is an expert in animal behavior, holding both Master and PhD degrees in Psychobiology, from Bucknell University and The Institute of Animal Behavior, Rutgers University. Stress endocrinology has been a focus of his research for many years. He has a deep  understanding of the negative impact stress can have on a horse's life. It is the foundation for his
Advanced Horsemanship Clinic which is built around the theme "First, Cause No Harm" and the basis for insisting that training should adhere to natural laws, Golden Rules.

Bruce holds tenured positions in the Departments of Psychiatry, Anatomy and Neurobiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. In addition to Ten Golden Rules of Horse Training, he has published nearly 70 scientific articles in leading journals and edited books.

Bruce is a member of the American Association of Natural Hoof Care Practitioners (AANHCP) Board of Directors. He is not a professional hoof trimmer but he does trim Gabriel's feet himself. Bruce is also the Science Adviser and the Wild Horse Research Coordinator for the AANHCP.

Tucker and Dakota recently past away. Both dogs lived long and happy lives with Jean and Bruce. Tucker was Bruce's close companion and shadow for 17 years.
