SERES SQUEEZE

This term describes a rare triple squeeze in a three-card ending and first discovered and analyzed by Mr. Tim Seres in 1965. The following illustration should clarify the concept.

The contract is 6 Clubs. South is the declarer. After the tenth trick, the end positions are as above, and South is on lead from the dummy. South leads the 7 of Spades, which is ruffed by the Ace of Clubs. West is squeezed in all three suits, a triple squeeze. It must be noted that one of the squeezed cards is also a trump card, the 3 of Clubs, which is very similar to the Backwash Squeeze.

Be aware whether or not the feature is alertable or not and whether an announcement should or must be made. Check with the governing body and/or the bridge district and/or the bridge unit prior to the game to establish the guidelines applied. Please include the particular feature on your convention card in order that your opponents are also aware of this feature during the bidding process, since this information must be made known to them according to the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge.
