PERFECT BRIDGE HAND

A perfect bridge hand is defined as a holding that will produce 13 tricks in No Trump and is not determined by the opening lead or the composition of the other three hands. This definition excludes a holding of all 13 cards of one particular suit, since a lead in another suit would defeat the No Trump contract, and therefore does not qualify as a perfect bridge hand. The number of perfect bridge hands that qualify for the definition are as follows, and which have been mathematically determined.

Hand Pattern       # of Possible Hands
AKQJxxxxx AK A A 1512
AKQJ10xxx AKQ A A 672
AKQJ10xxx AK AK A 672
AKQxxxxxxx A A A 480
AKQJ109x AKQ AK A 168
AKQJ109x AKQJ A A 84
AKQJ109x AK AK AK 28
AKQJ109 AKQJ AK A 24
AKQJ10 AKQJ AKQ A 24
AKQJ109 AKQJ10 A A 12

The mathematical calculation results in the number of possible hands as being held by one player as: 635,013,559,600. The probability of one player holding a perfect bridge hand is therefore: 169,066,442 to 1.
