SWEDISH JACOBY 2 NO TRUMP

This is a variation of the Jacoby 2 No Trump used in Limit Raises. This variation is played in Sweden and has gained some popularity. The year of the origin of Swedish Jacoby 2 No Trump is unknown, but according to Mr. Stefan Zylberstein in an email dated: Friday, 14 February, 2003, the Stenberg convention is named for the Swedish master and theoretician Mr. Alvar Stenberg, who introduced the Stenberg convention into the praxis of Swedens bridgelife. It is also the contention of Mr. Stefan Zylberstein that the Stenberg convention and the Swedish Jacoby 2 No Trump convention are the same conventional methods of game-forcing responses and showing trump support. The Stenberg convention is a variation or a different version of the Swedish Jacoby 2 No Trump, which is generally the mostly employed convention.

The following chart provides the responses of the responder and the rebids of the opener:

The bidding process becomes clear after such descriptive responses and the opener and the responder can bid accordingly, as in the following bidding example:

3

If the bidding sequence is as follows, then the rebids by the opener are indicated in the following chart:

4

4 other Major

If the partnership agreement is such that these responses are used, then the first response of 2 No Trump can be applied even on invitational values. As a consequence, the bidding sequence 1 Major - 3 Major becomes preemptive in nature.
