Interference Over a 2-Way 1 Club
Some of the best concepts on how to deal with interference over a Polish or 2-way Club are presented here.
Direct interference over 1 Club:
All bids by responder have their normal systemic meanings, with the following exceptions:Pass and 1 Diamond both show negative hands (pass shows 4 or more Clubs).
Assuming the double of 1 Club shows Majors, a redouble shows an opening hand and at least 4-3 in the Majors (this institutes forcing passes).
One level suit bids by responder have the normal systemic meanings. Pass is Negative Double or a Penalty Double.Pass: negative, or a penalty double.
All reopening actions by opener show a strong hand. Double is Takeout
Double: fairly balanced, unsuitable for 2 No Trump or 3 No Trump. (does not promise a stopper)
With the weak hand bid 1 No Trump. All other actions show a strong hand.
The bids from 1 NoTrump to 2x-2 (two below the opponent's suit) are transfers to the next suit.
An acceptance of the transfer at 2 or 3-level shows the weak hand. All other auctions show the strong hand.
2x-1: 8+ HCPs, shortness in opponent's suit, no long suit, can be passed.
2x and jumps show the strong hand. Everything else shows the weak hand.
2x (cuebid): game-forcing with shortness in opponent's suit.
suits above 2x: preemptive. Some values are expected.
2 NT: 11-12 points, balanced, stopper in opponent's suit.
3x: stopper ask.
3 NT: to play.
1 Club - (2 anything):
Double: 8-12 points, balanced or Takeout, or very strong hand
2 suit: natural, 6-12 points
Other calls are rubensohl, assuming weak no Trump opposite
1 Clubs - (3 Clubs or higher):
All actions are natural. Non-game new suit bids are 1-round forces. Double is negative/card-showing.
If Fourth Hand Bids:
Passing and raising partner's suit are weak.
New suit bids and cuebids are strong. Double is cooperative, suggest a strong, fairly balanced holding with no big fit.
Interference After the Response to 1 Club:
1 Club - (pass) - 1 Diamond - (overcall):
With the weak hand, opener passes. Double is Takeout, strong. Bids and No Trump are strong, natural.
1 Club - (pass) - 1 Diamond - (double):
Pass suggests Diamonds, weak.
Redouble shows both Majors, weak or strong.
1 Major is weak or strong, it denies 4 cards in the other Major if weak.
1 Club - (pass) - 1 Major - (double):
System on, except that XX (redouble) shows a 3-card raise, weak or 3 small in a strong hand.
1 Club - (pass) - 1 Major or 2 Minor - (simple overcall):
Pass, raise and (support) double are the weak actions. All else is strong (a support double may be weak or strong). No relays.
If you wish to include this feature, or any other feature, of the game of bridge in your partnership agreement, then please make certain that the concept is understood by both partners. Be aware whether or not the feature is alertable or not and whether an announcement should or must be made. Check with the governing body and/or the bridge district and/or the bridge unit prior to the game to establish the guidelines applied. Please include the particular feature on your convention card in order that your opponents are also aware of this feature during the bidding process, since this information must be made known to them according to the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge. We do not always include the procedure regarding Alerts and/or Announcements, since these regulations are changed and revised during time by the governing body. It is our intention only to present the information as concisely and as accurately as possible.
