Wooden gate in Wharfedale

Keeping the beauty that people think of in the Yorkshire Dales means paying for the maintenance of stone walls and wooden gates. In purely economic terms it probably doesn't add up - it could be better to bulldoze big fields and put up wire fences, but the Dales would be an uglier place. Farmers need support if they are to stay in business and act as custodians of the lands heritage.
