Diving in Sump 6 started in May 2000. The underwater passage in Sump 6 is large, but hasn't been measured exactly, because of the poor visibility encountered so far. In places it ranges up to 20 metres high or more and at least 5 metres wide. So far it has been explored for 175 metres. The depth varies between 5 and 20 metres at the current limit of exploration. |

After the major flood in June, some of the dive lines were damaged or washed off course. At one point Phil Murphy used a fibron tape measure to bypass a broken section, before finding enough line to repair it properly. Mostly the line had to be pulled from the sand which had buried it. In the dry passage after Sump 5 what had formerly been swimming is now quicksand.

| A large airbell was entered in Sump 6 in July 2000 and then explored using life jackets. It was found the jackets barely kept the divers afloat, because of the weight of the diving bottles! After tying the line to foam floats and a plastic bottle, Phil Murphy and Brian Judd drifted off to explore with jolly cries of, "Don't get a puncture!" and thoughts of nautical disasters. Especially as the water at this point was probably 20 metres deep. The airbell proved to be 20 metres high, 40 metres long and about 4 metres wide.
