Side passage

There is one major side passage above water between Sumps 2 and 3 in Black Keld. This leads shortly to a sump, which is usually crystal clear. Just before this sump, a low wet crawl has been followed for 50 metres, past several 'ducks' (a quick duck underwater) to another as yet undived sump. The clear sump was dived in 1997 and surfaced after 70 metres amongst fallen slabs, which obstruct the way out of the water when wearing diving cylinders. More dry passage has been explored to a much larger sump. This time the water is peaty brown, like the main water. It's most likely this is an oxbow to the main drain, but it may lead to further inlets underwater. So far this sump has been dived for 40 metres.
