Near Sump 3

The floor of the passage at this point is similar to the flooded passages, being either bare rock or banks of sand. The flow is such that lighter particles are mostly swept along in the current. The banks of sand move a lot in floods and this tends to bury the dive line, making it difficult to retrieve and follow afterwards. In January 2001 I needed to kneel on the floor underwater and pull the line out of the sand with both hands. It would nearly have been easier to lay the line again, but then we could end up with lots of confusing lines.
