It's hard to imagine that a hose could be ripped off a regulator, but that's what I did while negotiating the crawl after Sump 2! I'd turned the air off before the crawl, so there was no ear shattering loss of air in the confined space, but it meant that there was only one working regulator to retreat back through Sumps 1 and 2 with. Phil Murphy stayed close on the swim back, but it would have been extremely problematic if the other regulator had caused trouble too. Abrasion of hoses and damage to equipment is a common occurence. Phil Murphy took a brand new, but faulty regulator, back to the dive shop after one dive in Black Keld. The engineer took some convincing that it was new and not three years old - before agreeing to fix it! |
