Phil Murphy nearly fully kitted and ready to dive. Phil is a very experienced cave diver who claims not to like ordinary caving, although he has been known to go down quite a few of them in his quest for scientific data!
He's probably more honest than most cavers. They won't admit that caves can be fairly uncomfortable places - cold, muddy, sometimes cramped, not to mention dark, with sharp rock and frightening drops! Phil is currently studying sediments in caves, which gives him the excuse needed to go caving and do what most sensible people regard as madness. In this picture Phil has an 'American' side mount harness for his cylinders, which allows him to remove them with relative ease if necessary. We are now using larger cylinders on the longer dives. |
